  1. Primary use would be for high torque nuts like crank nut, output flange nut etc. I have a HF electric cordless impact, but it struggles even with wheel bolts unless fully topped up and sometimes even then.
  2. I'm considering buying some air tools. I'd like to be able to drive a impact wrench of ~400lbft capacity (I'm assuming that's what I'll need to take of stubborn nuts like the output flange nut on the 5-speed, etc). I'm considering a single phase 30gallon 2hp campbell hausfeld compressor like this one: http://www.lowes.com/pd_268707-1126-VT6389_0__?productId=3824207 or this (what's the difference?) http://www.aircompressorsdirect.com/Campbell-Hausfeld-VT6358-Air-Compressor/p7723.html I've also hear good things about IR: http://www.northerntool.com/shop/tools/product_200339041_200339041 These have a ~5.5 scfm rating at 90psi. Search indicates that many are using this type of compressor, but not clear if it sufficient to drive the impact wrench capacity I have in mind. This is only very occasional use. I can't use a 2phase compressor as my garage is on the opposite side of the house from my mains/fuse box. Anyone here have a similar setup/use or has feedback on this? Thanks, Byas
  3. Nice! Is a 2002 parts search possible?
  4. Ben, Can u post some pics here? thx B
  5. Looks like the shape changed from '73 to '74. In either case, test with all the rubber and bumpers on before deciding whether there is real interference. B
  6. The hood on my '74 is off another '74 (possibly '75). I have a hood from a 73 in my garage -- I can check that too. I thought the purpose of the those wings is to keep water off the heater fan motor. Perhaps it is inconsequential to that. Do you have the bumpers on the rear sides of the hood attached? The rubber bumper on the latch loop in the center? And the rubber seal that goes crosswise? B
  7. The hood on my car looks like your new one. Don't grind it off yet. Perhaps your old one is not correct (or repaired)? B

  10. What about goign full digital with LCD behind circular cut-outs...? http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?279769-Arduino-anybody
  11. While the low slung design looks good, washing the top of the car would be a pain. Either it needs enough clearance underneath, or thru the slats, or the loading area should be hinged so that it can be lifted up to clean underneath.
  12. Mine did that when I first got the car. And similar story -- I was driving into Sac to meet up with conkitchen and see his turbo when the wiper came off in a light drizzle. It turned out that there was not enough clearance between the windshield seal and the wiperblade bottom when the wiper was in action and as a result the wiper was being pushed off the spindle. Not sure if it was because the seal was aftermarket or not. The solution was the remove the wiper linkage -- there are some washers under the cowl -- I removed a washer to increase the the length of spindle that protruded above the cowl. Now there is enough clearance over the full range of motion. Byas
  13. Undercoating would only be the dealer variety i think - not from factory.
  14. Based on research here I've ordered a M12x1.5 thread oil pressure sensor for my 74Tii. It just struck me now, that there are parts on my car that are not original so I should not be assuming it has what it should have. I just checked -- the distributor mount block has a date of '82. Real OEM shows that 320i used M12x1.5 (I'm assuming an '82 date code is for 320i) and it does have an O-ring. Is there any other thing I should check - short of pulling out sensor (I don't have a 24mm deep socket handy)? The part is back ordered at JEGS for a few more days, so can change the order if not the right part. Byas
  15. it's avail from bmw or max or penske, probably from Blunt. There seems to also be less expensive version. B
  16. Tank is for fuel vapor recovery. When hot, the fuel vapors go into tank and when you start car, vapors get sucked into air cleaner.
  17. One caution though -- several Tii owners have posted about difficulty in getting the KF system to enrich sufficiently at WOT/higher rpm. Maybe Ethanol in fuel related or worn KF pump related, but high compression + leaner mixture might not be good. So, renewing the KF system is probably also warranted.
  18. Dieter, Thanks! Good to know. And welcome back to '02s. Still have the Alpina? Byas
  19. Thanks all! I'll just go with bushing replacements. Byas
  20. Download the pdf of the blue manual. It has instructions on adjusting the glass. B
  21. Follow up to follow up : Just over a month now -- part he said he would send is not here.
  22. I checked the alternator currently in my car and it has the AL-40X sticker on it. But, the mounting boss is not the longer Tii one. The alternator works fine, but the bushings are shot. THought I'd try to get an alternator with the correct size boss. But, I don't want to spend money on another short boss AL40X. Is there any way to make sure I get the right version? Perhaps NAPA is the way to go -- at least I'll see it before I get it. Davesdiscountparts say they get direct from Bosch. Anyone had any luck with them? BTW, their catalog shows AL40X for Tii upto 73 and an AL89X or 74Tii. Byas
