  1. Is that the rod that goes from the shifter to the shifter rod on transmission?
  2. I'm not certain if you're looking to get this done by someone else, or you are willing to do the work yourself. Here's a list of the stuff I bought, and I'm doing it all myself Transmission - $275 (ebay find) New output seal and shifter seal - $15 - Autohaus AZ New slave cylinder - $20ish (I think) - Autohaus AZ New throw out bearing - $30ish (I think) - Autohaus AZ Clutch master to slave line - $30ish - Ireland Engineering Shifter platform - $100ish - Ireland Engineering Short shift kit - Don't remember - maybe $100 or so from Ireland Transmission mounting tabs - $55 (from Lee on this board) Transmission mount - $15 - Autohaus AZ 3 bolt driveshaft flange - $29.95 - ebay 6 hole guibo - $20ish??? - BavAuto I think that's about it. The rest is my effort and engineering. I still haven't bought a 5 speed speedometer cable and that'll be a few bucks, and I have to get the driveshaft shortened, but the changeover shouldn't be thousands of dollars unless you want someone else to do all the work for you. Good luck, and I'll be posting soon about the mounting process. Wish me luck.
  3. Here's what I did with the master to slave line, minor adjustments still necessary and I'm gonna find a bracket to hold it still on the transmission.
  4. Here's the Ireland product for 5 speed conversion. Very nice quality, as you can see and it looks like it'll fit real nice. More to follow on that. The bracket on the back is attachment to the tunnel and is on a rubber bushing....looks like it will be a smooth setup.
  5. Anybody have a pic of a hard line coming out of their slave cylinder on the 5 speed transmission? The one I just received from Ireland is straight....I know I'm gonna have to bend it, just looking for some ideas/inspiration so i can get it bent to have reasonable routing towards the master. BTW, the Ireland product is, as always, very nice. I'd post a pic, but I can't get the file under 500k for some strange reason. Maybe I'm retarded.
  6. The complete set from New Old Stock Motorsports (pre-bent and NICE quality) was about $220. I think i found them on ebay, but had seen others with the same thing. That is every brake like except the caliper to flex hose lines in the front
  7. Anyone got a 5 speed cable? Or do I have to go to the stores?
  8. That is WAY cool Lee. Your timing couldn't have been any better for me (pretty selfish, huh?). I eagerly await the finished product. Wagner
  9. LOL! Yeah, I guess you can't find the OEM parts anymore. Lee, of this forum, is about to fab up a run of them, however, so I'll probably leach off his expertise. So, you never welded 15 years ago and have had no problems? Sounds like bolts will work just fine.
  10. I figured that, how did you mount it? Did you fab a mount, or buy one from one of the aftermarket companies?
  11. I mean TRANSMISSION in this case, Otis. In an earlier post, Lee mentioned removing the old tabs from the tunnel in a 5 speed swap to give more room for the center muffler and transmission. Is this required/desired? I assumed they'd stay, particularly because most aftermarket brackets use them, but now I'm wonderin'. I think I'll buy some of Lee's tabs from him and mount them in the tunnel for the swap, but should I remove the old tabs before I jam in the transmission?
  12. There is a reason automakers (BMW in this case) put a thermostat on a car. The engine runs most efficiently at a given temp, and things work as designed (bearings, oil lube and cooling, valve train). Ever notice the car runs like shit when cold and gradually gets better and better until full operating temp is achieved? Running too hot will achieve similar results for different reasons. While your car may run better at whatever temp is reaches without the thermostat, that only means it was WAY too hot with the thermostat in. Just get a thermostat that operates correctly (cooler if you think that's what your engine needs) and you're off to the races. Your engine will thank you (not to mention your feet when you need the heater) and will last considerably longer.
  13. I am interested, then. That definitely sounds like the most elegant solution to the 5 speed mount issue.
  14. I just answered your post in the for sale forum. I have one in St Louis you can have for $10 plus actual shipping. Only needs rear cover (I stole it for the 3.91 I put in my 02) It currently has the 320i rear cover. Let me know
  15. I'd love to have some. What's the time frame? I'm about 2-3 weeks from needing them. I'll be looking for your posts
  16. BavAuto and others have motor mounts for less than $40 a piece. Not particularly expensive
  17. Yeah, all you did was change the idle jets? That is what my motor setup is, and I'm real interested in any lessons you learn. Where are you (what is the altitude)?
  18. Is it missing or stumbling, or just doesn't hit very hard? Probably starting from the top with a baseline carb adjustment and timing it precisely is the first order of business. How old are the plug wires? What color are the plug tips? Air cleaner filthy?
  19. Mr Haynes says OVERALL width is 62.6 in (159 cm). i suppose that is in the chubbiest part....wheel width slightly less.
