  1. Science, or rocket surgery? Sounds complex.....
  2. Can you tell if the slave is functioning when you cycle the clutch pedal? Unregard.....I reread and saw you can disconnect trans from engine. Hope it's nothing more serious
  3. It's a low pressure line and just needs to be brake fluid-proof. Mine was a pre-bent metal line from the mc grommet to the reservoir with a short piece of hose attaching the two. If you have an elbow that fits the grommet, I don't see any reason you can't put a flexible hose in from the reservoir to the mc. Just attach your hose at the reservoir and the elbow (like the ones in your brake mc)
  4. I'm not sure how true this is, but I heard you CAN'T rebuild them because of the way they are built. I scoff a bit, because anything can be rebuilt, but perhaps it's too difficult for any savings you might see.
  5. Heavy, maybe. I'm going for rotational momentum! I think they are about stock, however.
  6. I bought the IE pistons for a 90mm bore and 9.5:1 cr. They are works of art. Well worth it. Of course, my engine hasn't run yet, but I'm confident that it will.....someday. They'll do whatever CR you want.
  7. 320IS will definitely have it.
  8. Uh, it's 1-3-4-2 (written on your valve cover). Install the dizzy IAW the manual with #1 piston at TDC and it'll point at #1. Put your #1 wire there, then 3-4-2.
  9. That was the old carb with the old engine. The 38 is going on a 9.5:1 new-pistoned, 292 cammed machine. I'll post for sure, when I get it running.
  10. Already armed and ready for that procedure. I dug that out of the archives and took it to heart. I think that's also where I read the slave is set up to bleed with the bleeder facing down.
  11. So if I install the hose first, there'll be room for the fitting up against the case?
  12. I thought it was set up to bleed with that bleeder facing down.
  13. Got the Weber 38 attached today. Over the summer I hogged out the manifold. Today when my spacer and gaskets arrived, turns out I had to hog them out as well to match the carb/manifold. The BavAuto one I ordered was kinda oval, much too small on one end. The Dremel and I are becoming one.... Can't really mega-squirt.
  14. I know I'm supposed to install this slave so the bleeder is down (makes sense). When I dry fitted it, it appeared the hole for the hose fitting is awfully tight against the case. Is there room? I don't have the master to slave hose yet, so I can't tell for sure.....is the fitting pretty small?
  15. Well, I did a LOT of research and it is supposed to be straight bolt-on. I'll let you know if I lock the rears or blow them out after my car hits the road. I have the upgraded front vented rotors with volvo calipers and 320i drums (250mm).
  16. I'm not sure which, exactly, is the 530i....I put an e12 master cylinder in my 74 and it fit perfectly. I know some of the 5 series are e12s. The only difference is the grommets on top where the reservoir lines go in. The e12 master has HUGE holes and the elbows from the 2002 don't fit. You gotta get the grommets with the little holes (I think I got mine from the local dealer)
  17. I don't see any other reasonable options, and if maintaining originality is your big picture goal, then #1 seems to be the only choice. Sucks, but which job on the 02 doesn't take twice as much money as you thought?
  18. Thanks for the help. Looks like a 14mm size for older cars (pre 1972) and 18mm for my 74.
  19. I would definitely enlarge the bracket holes and do it right. If you try to zip-tie some padded bracket, you know the end result is gonna be one of these lines chafing through and springing a leak. Prolly not the answer you wanted to hear, but there is just too much movement around those lines to rig it.
  20. Are there grommets in the cowl where the heater hoses pass through? Makes sense, but I don't remember removing and can't find them on a parts diagram or in the forum.
  21. I'm a visual person. How about a pic?
  22. Thanks for the pics Todd. Hopefully you got my email...and I'm serious; you should post those pics here or make a FAQ, your work is really good.
  23. CD gave you a pretty amazing run-down of items to touch. One thing that bears repeating....flush brakes and bleed thoroughly. You'll see a vast improvement and it'll be a lot safer. Not a hard job, search the forum. Good luck, enjoy, keep us informed and keep your checkbook warm!
  24. That is one amazing ground strap! I had no idea the alternator pulls that kind of horsepower...guess I'm stoopid
  25. Wow, that worked out better than you ever could have expected.
