  1. I too decided to leave on Saturday to try and beat some weather. Had a heck of a time (several hours worth) getting around flooded roads, some of which were pretty intense! Here's what was a road in southern MO, but you wouldn't know it from the photo :0
  2. Last night's camp site on the way from Minneapolis. See y'all in 5 hrs. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. On my car, Octavo 100's beat Turbines. I look the look better despite not having found center caps for them yet. (worth noting that 185/70 tires rubbed in the front on the Octavo's before I put in camber plates. Turbines did not, and currently wear 205/55's which don't rub) For your car, I'd pick the center wheels. I think they'd look better on the white.
  4. Saw this idea on a rad looking Colorado car in NE Minneapolis a few weeks ago. Sorry I didn't get a picture at the time (and who are you?? if you're on this board give a shout). This weekend I set it up for my car. Super simple: - drink two bottles of wine - try and drill a straight hole in each cork - fool around with string pushing through - tie it off on a safe place where it won't roll down the road when dislodged from extreme cornering (or in MN, avoiding potholes) - wedge it up vertically Voila! No more rear windows banging closed.
  5. I'm contemplating doing a chrome-tape job on a spare set of grills for my '76 that would replicate the '73 look for the horizontal slabs (kind of -- since there's no replicating the extra body element and not sure how I'd do the perimeter of them since it doesn't wrap all the way around). Does anybody have any photos of this done or know of a thread? I've tried the search but not finding anything. I saw it done on a '74 car at a Bay Area Swap n Show many years ago and thought it looked nice. Also, is this a lame idea and should I just stop my quest to have a '73 roundie instead of a '76? (I'm pretty happy with the '73 bumper mod and just put on euro signals. just sayin;)
  6. I too started with this same resource as I embarked on my 5 speed swap. I ended up using a bunch of different resources though, as I found there were so many details I didn't inherently know how to do. FWIW, below is the list of links I collected and referred to along the way (to a successful swap!): HELPFUL LINKS: Procedure Overview: http://www.racetep.com/5speed.html Very good detailed overview here of the trans install: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/86733-getrag-245-transmission-faq-and-install-faq/ Ultimate 5spd conversion page on FAQ: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/131907-the-ultimate-5-speed-conversion-page-for-getrag-245/ Bimmers.com overview of procedure: http://www.bimmers.com/02/upgrades/transmission.html Lots-o-pictures step-by-step: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/92602-5-speed-tranny-install-update-done/page-2 Another good overview of the process at the bottom of this thread: http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/7767-5-Speed-Conversion Transmission Removal Procedure: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/121534-transmission-removal/ Trouble with 245 sitting left and hitting the tranny tunnel: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/162245-5speed-install-questions/ Aardvark Racing upgrade Kit: http://www.2002parts.com/bmw/5-speed-trans.html Ireland Engineering Kit has all the necessary components other than tranny parts list: http://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/2002-clutch-driveline/025spdlist.html Kick Ass Full parts list in photo attachment on this thread: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/106743-what-other-parts-do-i-need-for-a-5-speed-swap/ Rear flange removal: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/49543-transmission-output-flange-removal/?hl=%2Boutput+%2Bflange+%2Bremoval#entry146499 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/158609-trans-collar-nut-socket-30mm-bargin/?hl=%2Boutput+%2Bflange+%2Bremoval Pilot Bearing: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/78278-pulling-the-pilot-bearing-without-a-puller/page-2?hl=%2Bbread+%2Bmethod#entry991505 http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/159284-new-pilot-bearing-use-felt-or-not/?hl=%2Bpilot+%2Bbearing#entry1007646 Clutch Re-installation Step-by-step: http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/SuperCat/5465/BMW_5465_TCLUTC_pg1.htm#item3 Transmission Install Instructions: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/86733-getrag-245-transmission-faq-and-install-faq/ http://www.bmw2002faq.com/_/technical-articles/engine-and-drivetrain/transmission-install-with-motor-in-the-car-r18 Transmission cradle easy wood build: http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/164380-trick-to-removing-shifter/ Getrag 245 Manual in PDF: http://www.bmw2002.net/pdf/Getrag245.pdf Re-install procedure: http://www.racetep.com/5speed.html http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/86733-getrag-245-transmission-faq-and-install-faq/ Aligning the driveshaft (about halfway down): http://www.bmw2002faq.com/topic/52091-5-spd-conversion-question/?hl=install+getrag
  7. Just registered! Excited to make the drive from Minneapolis MN to my first MidAmerica 02 Fest, and first 2002 focused gathering since moving away from the SF Bay Area in 2010 :0 Will be driving down Wednesday evening and Thursday.
  8. Not mine, no affiliation. Will these fit into a 2002?? https://minneapolis.craigslist.org/hnp/pts/6021831027.html
  9. Here's the low budget way to do this. For the front: - I cut the front apron just enough to expose the pre-'74 mounting brackets - Front bumper bolts right in. (my cheapo one is not perfect, as you can see) - I used the big bumper plastic cover pieces to put on top of the newly cut apron, to hide it For the rear: - drill holes through the rear for the rear bumper bolts For the extra holes in the body: - I used little plastic plugs and spray painted them to match, then glued them in place
  10. Nice score! I love polaris cars. Also love having a sunroof and a 5 speed. Have fun with it!
  11. I paid about $200 for mine and did the install myself in an afternoon, following someone else's write up that I found searching the forum.
  12. That looks to me like it might be a CA spec '75 or '76 exhaust manifold with the full set of emissions integrations: one out the front and two out back, all blocked off at this point. When I bought my '76 CA car it had similar/same (as I recall) manifold on it. I moved out of Ca and put a '74 manifold on it from a parts car. See photos: - first is the '74 manifold with just one rear port, which I plugged (with plumbing cap ) - second is the '76 stock, with the heatshield on it so covering most of what you could see :/, but shows the front port I'm in similar situation now, looking to make an upgrade on the exhaust overall which is tired and has leaks, and will start from the cylinder head mani/header back to the tail. Researching now for Spring work, and posted a few days ago on subject. So far based on my research (here on the forum and through friends knowlegeable) the resounding advice I'm getting is to 1. go with a header. Ireland Engineering is a solid recommendation, with a couple others in the mix; Stahl being another top one 2. from there back either build it yourself (from my friend who has welding equipment :), buy a nice stainless (like IE), or just get any decent system that will bolt in This is based on my goals of: A. fix a problem (leaking exhaust) B. gain any HP possible with the upgrade C. improve the sound pleasure: interior noise decrease (see A.) also looking for a little bit of burble out the back, but very streetable daily driver D: be an upgrade that would be appropriate for a relatively near-term engine overhaul and slight performance mod I primarily drive street, with fun in twisty roads, and occasional auto-x.
  13. Good looking car! +1 on the smog removal. Did so on my '76 and it's much much happier.
  14. On the list for Spring is to redo the exhaust on my '76 mintgrun. It currently has a '74 manifold with the EGR port blocked going into what I believe is stock exhaust the rest of the way back. I did a 5 speed swap last year and the pipe bangs on the trans every once in a while and overall the system is aged. I'm looking to redo the entire system including a header. I mostly street the car but occasionally auto-x. Upgraded suspension (IE stage I springs, camber plates, 22/19 sway) but otherwise bone stock motor w/ weber 32/36. I'd like some burble at the back but keep it quiet in the cabin, and hopefully pick up a few HP from improved flow. I'm thinking about the IE Street / Track header: http://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/2002-exhaust/02stephead1.html And then either this Abarth: http://www.abarth-exhausts.com/bmw/ VS. the IE stainless: http://www.iemotorsport.com/bmw/2002-exhaust/02ssexhaustLATE.html Anyone with experience with these or recommendations? Here's my engine bay with the '74 manifold, and also a vid from the Abarth site showing off the exhaust note -- dig it. BMW-2002-film.mov
  15. Nice Ghia @bemyway! This update to the thread and the tall rack you have made me want to go find an old photo of a Thule rack I had on my 02. I had a height extension kit on it to fit over the stock racks on a '71 Squareback we owned at the time, and for whatever reason I had it on my 2002 with the extra spacers. Clearance!!
  16. Hey Chad I have a '76 I've owned for 14 years I'd be happy to show you. I'm in Uptown/East Isles in Minneapolis. PM me
  17. Son of Marty, I was wondering same thing about those. Killer restoration work, thanks for sharing!
  18. I dig it! Good option considering the original upgrades are getting hard to find. I like that they have the same lines as the e21 recaros.
