  1. Jay, I'm in your boat. My '76 is great on the streets but howls on the highway. The only answers are to replace your rear end diff with a 3.64 diff. These were found on '75 and below 2002's, i think. This will give you better cruising on the highway, but not much. Or you can replace your 4 speed with a 5 speed, that's what I'm going to do. I hear that the 5 speed with the 3.90 rear end gear in my car now is a very good combo. Good luck.
  2. Hey Russ, thats not the temp. sender, thats must be some smog crap. Temp. senser is on the water elbow where the radiator hoses both meet. You may have a bad ground connection somewhere, that may be causing your gauge to jump around.
  3. Hmm... Its grinding again, mine didnt do that. Hey Russ, did you check the flywheel, maybe its missing a few teeth or some of the teeth have been rounded off. Also, did they give you the right starter? I know this is a dumb question but Ive gotten wrong things from autopart stores before and dont realize it until I get home and try to strap it on.
  4. Hey Russ, I removed the entire bracket just to give me some more space to get the starter out, this was the part that gave me the most trouble. Break out your ratchet and extentions for this one, it will make it easier.
  5. Its actually pretty easy. The starter is held on to the block by 2 bolts. There is one nut next to the manifold thats kind of a bitch, but thats about it. There is also a bracket under the manifold that must be removed in order to remove the starter. This bracket contains the grounding cable from the battery so you will have to remove it. The bracket bolts to the starter with 2 small nuts, remove 'em and the starter will pop out. I think this is about it. I'm sure I missed something cause I removed my starter like 2 years ago. Anyway, hope it helps.
  6. All the guys at Ireland are cool and very helpful. All of my suspension parts were bought at Ireland. Their prices are good and you get some good quality stuff. I have never had a bad experience with them.
  7. Nice! Cool diecast car, where can I find some dicast cars here in the states. I found a Inka 2002 Tii at the L.A. Auto show years ago and have not been able to find 2002's since.
  8. Yeah, Nick. I was also concidering getting those Work Equip 01 wheels for my 02 in 14 inch until I found out they were about 1300 bucks and must be ordered because I believe they are cusom made for every application. Besides, I live in East L.A. and those wheels wouldn't have lasted one week on my car!
  9. Hey John, maybe you can hit up some hobby stores that sell remote control cars and aircraft. They always seem to have good quality copper wire in different gauges and colors to suit you needs.
  10. Wow! Cool find. Do you know what kind of wheels those are? I've got a set and have no idea what make they are.
  11. Hmm. I've never seen that Chilton manual before. I've got the one that covers all BMW sedans from the early '70s to the early '90s. It has alot of information for the price, I think it was 20 bucks at Kragen. Try that one or if you can find an original BMW repair manual in the blue binder that would be even better.
  12. WOW! Nice. Mine cost $1500 and it looks like shit! Runs great though.
  13. Congrats on your first 02! Prepare to become totally addicted to your car. Look into the archives here on the FAQ and Im sure you will find lots of info on suspension setups and motor swaps, mainly the M20 ('84-'91 325) or the S14 ('88-'91? M3). I've even heard of dudes putting rotaries in their 02! Just check out the archives to see what they got. Good luck, and may the Shwartz be with you!
  14. So im driving along and hear a big popping sound, checked the car and it looks like the guibo ate itself. So I figured if im going to be down there might as well do the 5spd swap. I was looking at the conversion kit available through Aardvarc Racing, just wondering if anyone here has purchased this kit, or any other. Or would it be better if I purchased the parts seperately. Any information will be great! Its been 5 days since I last drove my 02 and im starting to go alittle nuts! Thanks!
  15. Cool, Thanks everyone. Hey Nick, nice car. Where did you get that carbon fiber hood, it looks great.
  16. I was just wondering if Mint Grun would go good with a black interior. I don't think I've ever seen that color combo. Most I've seen have a tan interior. If anyone has a photo they can show me that would be great, Thanks!
  17. Hey, WA. I think there is a freeze plug on the block back there between the engine and tranny. Maybe thats where the coolant is coming from, thats really the only place I can think about if its leaking from back there. Just my .02 cents.
  18. What a dumb ass! You should have tore him a new one anyway!
  19. Okay, my 76 will be painted by next week, time for the next thing! I,ve got the entire 318i setup but will be using a Haltech F10X for the brains. I was just wondering if the stock throttle body and fuel injectors will be enough for the 2.0 or do I have to get others that flow more. My engine is a bone stock 76 that will that has been de-smogged.I am not really looking for more horsepower, just better driveability and maybe some more fuel economy. Oh, and I plan to add a Tii exhaust soon. Any information will be great, Thanks!
  20. Thanks, BLUNT. No, I have never used POR15. The starter kit I got only comes with a 4oz. can of the stuff, so hopefully I won't have any left. If it does dry out, it will only be a few ounces.
  21. Yeah, I saw that article too. To bad it only showed the Tii from the rear. But I was quite surprised. I'd figure Rahal would drive a newer kick ass car. But I can't think of anything more kick ass than a Colorado Tii!
  22. Thanks for the tips guys, I guess I'll be welding those holes shut. Hey Randy, thanks for the POR -15 link, just ordered a starter kit, hope thats enough.
