  1. Here is a link to a S14 motor that suffered from hydrolock at the bolt holes from not cleaning the holes sufficiently before assembly. Every bolt hole was cracked on this 2.5 S14. I had to see it to believe it, cause before these pictures I chalked it up to urban legend. http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/donpippins/album?.dir=/980cre2
  2. Skippy, I was originally going to set mine up that way but could not find a long enough arm that connects to the other carb... It looks from that picture your mechanic welded a longer piece of metal to make it reach.
  3. Pierce Maniflolds has all the linkages you probably need... I used them to put this together. With exception of the heim joints (Bearing Engineering, I think they are Aurora) and are metric.
  4. There are different 'grade' bike cables out there... you can always replace it with a high end bike cable or get cable lube from a motorcycle shop.
  5. Very nice... how much $$$ do you have into that conversion? I may think about something similar.
  6. Are there any bathtub pistons that would NOT work with a 121 head? Reason for the question is that my bottom end currently has bathtub pistons and I was going to install a 121 head on it, soon. Thanks
  7. Slim to none.. I think I'm going to use it on the 121, sorry. And the 284 is going in my backup engine.
  8. I have 2 extra cams from other E12 heads, a 292 and a 284 and was going to use them on my 121 if they work on it.. and it looks like they will
  9. Oops I did not read the 'BMW' part... sorry about the Optima message
  10. Are camshafts interchangeable between those 2 heads?
  11. I just used the stock throttle shaft and connected it to the lever on the carb. I used a spring connected to the top of the firewall to that same lever for the tension spring... I'm also going to add a spring that goes around the rod and hooks on the heim joint for safety purposes. Here's an old picture of when I first started putting this thing together... look toward the firewall...
  12. My car did the same thing (cooling issues) Replaced the radiator with a junkyard 320i and put a new t-stat on... now the gauge sits under the 3 o'clock position and often drops lower... and that is uphill during the 100+ temps here in CA.
  13. Not Webers but this is what I put together for my Dellorto setup.
  14. Wow!!! awesome site http://www.mcmaster.com/ Thanks for that resource. Power Transmission->Shaft Collars = GOLD MINE!!!
  15. Come to Northern California specifically Berkeley, Marin and Sonoma.. you'll see one every other block.

    cam shaft

All the Norris cams I've heard of have always been very radical.. 300+
  17. One of the said benifits is to insulate the carb from the heat transfer from the intake manifold.. another is to reduce vibration. these spacers are usually only about 1/4 to 3/8 inch thick...
  18. Nice... Missing Ponys/performance? Remove stock fan replace w/electric. Pertronix Ignition Move battery to trunk Wire loom ignition wires (ideally try to keep wires 1.5 inches away from any ground source) Pheneolic(sp?) spacer between manifold and carb Front windshield weather stripping I hope I'm not too off base
  19. I emailed you with info... Just in case you did not get it... if you can send me an email or PM with your address and time that would be great. I'm in Alameda, robert
  20. Anyone have a Bilstein coil over removal tool that I can borrow for 1 hour? I have one for the standard strut but don't have one for my coil over setup which is a slightly smaller inside diameter. Or can anyone suggest another way of removing the shock nut... Spanner wrench (I've look all over and no on has one) I'll try Harbor freight and Vic Hubbard tomorrow.
  21. I guess my visualization skills are lacking because 'the bottom of the wheel opening' is vague to me.
  22. Cool pic.. but 115 degrees F at the bottom of the red?????
  23. Can someone give me a starting point on what the proper way to set the front suspension height. I have front coil overs and can adjust the front height. If I measure from the front of the rocker panel bottom trim to the ground, should that distance be equal to the rear part of the rocker panel trim to the ground? Right now the front is 9 1/4 inches while the rear is 8 3/4 inches. Thanks, Robert
