  1. Are there any obvious markings? Never seen one before and might be in the market to get a used one. Thanks
  2. Buy both and when you know which one to use.. return the other. They are $5-8 each... You never know about these cars since cranks can be replaced or exchanged for other years...
  3. I've used Elring Cutting ring gaskets on my rebuilds. Part number 11 12 1 265 420... usually about $45, twice as expensive as stock. They have 91mm bores so they will work with most every rebuild. Good Luck, Robert
  4. I would suspect it's number 3. I just installed one last week... put it in the freezer the night before and use the correct size socket that is the same diameter as the outside race and just tap it in... easy job.
  5. Complete engine... to lazy to remove the head and alternator...
  6. Looking for a couple good used pistons....
  7. Again... Pierce and Jam are too far away, looking for preferably an Eastbay location.
  8. with the exception of Pierce.. too far away to drive for $10 part.
  9. If the Zymol method does not work for you, look up Color sanding. In a nutshell you wet sand the area with very fine sandpaper ... 2000 or 1200 and then use Glasurit Cutting compound (toothpaste consistency). After the Glasurit you dry the area off, it will be very dull but after you apply your preferred wax coating the finish will turn out with a mirror shine. Do a search on 'Color Sanding' on the web to get the detailed version.. Good Luck.
  10. Sorry KFunk I was just refering to CDs picture and hand written note that the Gear washer is located behind the gear and not used for the nut.
  11. Damn.. all M10 motors that I have taken apart had the oil pump gear washer right behind the nut..... I just installed one a few days ago and now the engine is in the car... DOH... Hopefully it's not too much of a 'bad' angle to for the chain...
  12. Just got back from a nice test drive of my used motor install last Monday. 7K shifts in 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th... CR tranny... Could not tell 100% how much smoke there was since it was night but with the street lights there did not seem to be too much... day time run will be the real test... Next thing I need to do is advance the timing the audible way and set my spark plug gaps to .050 inch, almost 2 times stock setting... as prescribed by my Compu-fire ignition system Just nice to be driving the 02 again....
  13. Cool, it looks like the 185/60 14 will be it.. after my existing tires wear out.
  14. Ok.. this is the first time I've had a 02 motor that has a dipstick housing that is attached to the block by a rubber hose with hose clamps. To me this design is flawed since the housing can be pushed in and out + or - 1 inch, which will change considerably what the oil level will indicate on the dipstick. Question: what's the correct distance of the dipstick housing to the male part that sticks out from the block? Parts 4 thru 7 in the diagram. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=2552&mospid=47140&btnr=11_2377&hg=11&fg=30
  15. the rubbing is on the the inside fore/aft of the tire, not on the outside... I'll try the 185/60's .... thx!
  16. After installing ANOTHER used motor yesterday by myself.... all went well and drove the car to work 23 miles one way. (still @work) After my real motor is finished being rebuilt I'll have to swap motors yet again.. but I'll probably wait awhile, need to drive this thing and stop working on it Anyways.. .Question, what tire size fits w/o rubbing using 325is 14inch basketweave wheels? I currently have 195/60 and they RUB during most spirited turns.
  17. Just an observation. I don't know if mechanical advance dizzy's are different but on all my 02's the number one mark was/is usually around 1 to 2 o'clock, where yours is around 6 o'clock. but again, maybe I've been doing it wrong all along
  18. this is a better answer... the 1.8 liter version was what I was wondering about... the 2 liters should be ok...
  19. Thought so, I guess they did not change the combustion chamber design thru the years 77-83? Just wondering if there were E12 heads that could not accomodate 9.5 piano tops..
