  1. As much as everyone gives big bumper 02's a hard time, you have to love big bumper 02's when you live in the city. They have saved my 02 several times when I lived in LA. If you had a small bumper 02, I'm sure it would have been a different story and you would have got the worst of it. G-Man with a big bumper 74 tii
  2. Too bad this 02 is a 4 speed, She could be the next Barbie girl or a Mary Kay associate. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/car/170517401.html G-Man
  3. The color is just a little off from what you are looking for, it's red and black. This ad was in the Reno Craigslist, usual disclaimers apply. Looks to be a decent Alpina replica by the pics, engine appears to be stock. http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/car/169073304.html 72 2002 G-Man
  4. I used the cigarette lighter since it's always hot. Just run your memory wire to the back of the lighter. If you don't want to do that, you could always run it to the battery. G-Man
  5. At least the Opel wheels have the same offset as an 02 wheel has, give your PO some credit for that. I've seen some wheels on BMW's that the owners didn't ever consider offset into the equation. I'm sure they looked good to the owner and that's all that mattered. G-Man
  6. Check out this mint green 74 tii that's for sale at a Toyota dealership in Fredricksburg VA, VIN 2780203, anyone out there know this car? No doubt that this is a mint green 02. G-Man http://www.rosnerauto.com/profile.asp?VIN=000000000027B0203&xMake=Toyota&FilterMake=0
  7. All M10 engines, M30 is a big six and that is a different gearbox, Getrag 262 For all your answers, click on the following link http://www.metricmechanic.com/pg51.htm G-Man
  8. Suggest you talk to the owner of this 76 2002 that has been converted to EFI, I'm sure that their are other lessons learned from others. BTW, this 02 is for sale. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/car/166466685.html G-Man
  9. Don't forget Coupe King's shop in Los Angeles http://www.coupeking.com/ G-Man
  10. For that amount of money, I'd find a some good used fenders, nose panel, hood, and strip the whole car of all the trim, remove the windows and most of the interior and get a sweet complete car paint job. If you plan on getting the front end repainted, be advised that you can always tell a repaint on a car, it won't match the rest of the body, you can always see it in the light. With that type of money that insurance is giving you, you can get it done right. I would bet you would even have left over money to buy all new trim, window gaskets, etc. It's time to make lemonade out of lemons. Been there, done that and insurance gave me $3K 10 years ago when my former 02 was rear ended. I stripped my car of all trim, windows, bumpers, lights, etc.. prior to having it repainted for $1.2K, had the body damage fixed prior to paint for $500 (I had an 02 parts car that I canabalized for parts) and used the remainder for new gaskets, trim molding, etc... I broke even, that was ten years ago but you can still save a group of money by stripping the car yourself of all trim, windows, molding, lights, bumpers, etc.. before it goes to the body shop. Just my 02 cents worth. Remember you can use the body shop of your choice, ask this list or members of the local bmwcca for recommendations. Let us know how it turns out. I'd remove the engine and repaint the engine bay the body color, but that's what I would do if it were my car. G-Man
  11. I recommend Mesa Performance for your H4's, I've also found them in the pik-a-part yard as well. G-Man
  12. http://www.bmrparts.com/index.htm try them, they are local to you
  13. Yes their prices are high but if it's what you need, you have got to go get it. http://www.bmrparts.com/index.htm
  14. Their is a Colorado tii for sale that was recently posted, usual disclaimers apply. G-Man
  15. Steve, Sorry but I'll be driving up from Santa Barbara county a couple weeks earlier. I'll be working in Hawaii for two weeks prior to BA02 swap & show, I'm leaving on the redeye for the mainland the night before BA02 Swap & Show. I'll be arriving in the bay area a couple hours before show time. This gives me just barely enough time to pick up my car at my friends house and be there. I'll probably be dragging my butt at the show but I'm sure the sight of plenty of 02's will wake me up. See you there, G-Man
  16. The two shops that I dealt with in when I lived in San Diego were Bill Holmes in Ramona and Carl Nelson's shop in La Jolla. Contact them and I'm sure they could tell you who they use. Bill is a tii guru, He's the 02 man. The only problem is his shop is in the middle of nowhere south of Ramona. G-Man williamdholmes@yahoo.com http://www.bimmerdoc.com/
  17. 17" rims on an 02, WTF, O! I want to gag. I wonder if it comes with fuzzy dice and little balls hanging from the headliner. 150 HP, yea right, 84 M10 engine was a 1.8L http://sandiego.craigslist.org/car/155816776.html G-Man
  18. Vroomer, And you didn't ask me to go along to help navigate, I'm bummed. See you in Palo Alto for Bay area 02 Swap & Show next month. I'm flying on the redeye the night before from Honolulu, be in the bay area early morning the day of the fest. I may be a little tired but I'll be there in my tii this year. G-Man
  19. Sounds like the seller dumped it in a panic due to the move? It was on CL for some time, believe the seller wanted to trade it for a 4x4 SUV due to Tahoe trips. Looks like the color is Nevada, nice early 02. G-Man http://www.craigslist.org/eby/car/154702395.html
  20. Since 76 2002's have to under go smog testing here in CA, this would be an ideal 02 for someone who lives out state. Here in CA, it's a bitch to get a 30 year old car with carbs to pass smog. If someone is coming to Bay area 02 swap & show next month in Palo Alto and wants to take a 76 02 back home, this 02 and other 02's are available at some decent prices. G-Man
  21. I haven't paid over $750 for any of my BMW's in the last twelve years, but then again, I'm a cheap bastard. I have paid the following for my BMW's since 94: -$750 for a sahara 74 tii at an estate sale in Los Angeles county -$750 for a 73 Bavaria that was stored in a closed garage in LA county for 11 years, Owner flunked smog in 88 and parked it, now it's smog exempt. The Bav only had 119K miles on it when I bought it. It now has a 5 speed, Bilstein's, Weber's and Alpina wheels. -$400 for a 73 Bavaria in Orange county, sunroof, rare ceylon color, the PO had pulled the original 3.0 M30 engine and automatic and dropped in a 3.3L and 4 speed from a 79 E24 and converted it to EFI. The bonus was that the Bav came with 14" Alpina wheels. The wheels are now on my other 73 Bav. That Bavaria did run, Coupe King now has that Bavaria, I miss that one. -$300 for a 70 Euro spec E3 2800 that I found in LA, PO inherited that car from her father, she looked high maintenance and wanted nothing to do with a car that had no AC, no PS, with manual windows and 4 speed. Car has no rust, no body damage, a geniune time warp. Car has 95K original KM's on it. Coupe King, Carl Nelson and Bill Holmes did the restoration. Just don't ask me how much I spent on fixing up and restoring the cars but that is the fun of it. I had much more fun doing it this way than buying a car that was already restored. G-Man
  22. The front brake calipers are interchangeable with tii calipers if you have a tii. E3's have much more in common with BMW's with a M30 engine. E9 coupes and E12's come to mind as BMW's that the Bavaria will easily share drive train parts. If you have a Bavaria you want to get rid of, let me know and I'll tip off the E3 crowd. They'll help you get rid of your Bav. I have both a 2002 and a Bavaria (two E3's) and not much are interchangeable. E3's are the bastard stepchild of BMW's that get little to no respect. You've got to be a little warped to own one (thank you, I resemble that). They aren't as sexy as a E9 coupe, but they don't rust near as quick as a coupe does. It has the same drive train and I don't have any problems hauling my kids around in it. I gave my daughter in high school my 73 Bav, she doesn't want to give it up when I want to do maintenance on it, she is scared she'll get my 4Runner to drive. G-Man 74 tii, 5 speed, lsd, sahara 73 Bavaria, 5 speed, Weber's, Alpina's, malaga (daughters daily driver) 70 2800, 4 speed, Euro spec, totally stock, 95K original KM's, granada
  23. Kenwood makes a couple of new CD units with an old school look (big knobs, etc) http://www.kenwoodusa.com/products/ListProduct.aspx?k1=2&k2=46&k3=172&pr=2003 http://www.kenwoodusa.com/products/ListProduct.aspx?k1=2&k2=46&k3=172&pr=2002 What type of AC unit is that in your car? You could pull the AC (looks like a JC Whitney aftermarket) and put in a normal 02 console with a Parker perfomance faceplate. http://www.parkerperformance.com/ G-Man
  24. If your friend has disabled his steering lock, take off all the under dash/colum covers to get to the back of the ignition switch. the are two small screws holding the wiring harness where it goes into the back of the ignitions switch, remove the two screws and pull the harness out of the back of the ignition switch. On the wiring harness part, take a regular screwdriver and stick it in the slot (it's obvious when you are looking at it) and turn the screwdriver, you engine will start cranking over. This will not work if the steering wheel lock is not disabled. Don't know how to disable the steering wheel lock, maybe someone else can chime in. It doesn't do you much good if you have a car that you can start but can't steer it. You just start the car with a screwdriver, your friends will suddenly wonder what your other job is.... I've had to do this on my previous 02 and 73 Bavaria. Can't help get into the car but if you can get it, follow the above steps. G-Man
  25. A few hours left and I notice no bids, wonder why. At that price, I wonder if the seller was hitting the crack pipe before they posted it. If they can get it, more power to them. The booster cost more than what I paid for my tii.
