  1. You can spot my 02 at coupeking's shop while I'm deployed to Tampastan. Peter's shop is doing some headliner work to it while I'm gone. When I fly into LA X on 7 April, I'm going straight to his shop to pick it up. Woo Hoo!!! it will be a sight to sore eyes, months without driving my 02, I'm having withdrawls. G-Man
  2. You can even put a 4 barrel carb on your M20 if you want, Some Euro spec M20's came with a 4bbl, shop around and you'll find one. G-Man
  3. good luck trying to find H rated tires in 165-80-13 I've only seen them in S rated these days. If you are not an originality geek, go to plus one with 195-60-14, plenty of these available in H rated G-Man
  4. Shegaw, I'm jealous, first you found a great 02 (patience is a virtue) and now you are going to pik-a-part yards in the LA area while I'm deployed here in Tampastan. Be aware, last few times to the pik-a-part yards, I didn't even see a BMW older than an E21(only saw one of those) in the yards, old BMW's are getting very rare these days. Kudos to your great advice for recommeding Lori go to coupeking for her console, Peter will have what she's looking for. See you all in April upon my return. I'd like to see your new 02, congrats to your find. G-Man
  5. Here's a 73 2002 automatic for sale in the SF Bay area, looks like Riviera to me but then maybe I need my eyes checked. http://www.craigslist.org/pen/car/129291556.html The 73 needs some TLC. It's an original CA blue plate car. G-Man
  6. Everything you want to know about 2002 sunroof refurbishment is at the following website http://www.my2002tii.com/spring_2005/sunroof.htm G-Man
  7. I spent six months working in Germany (Ramstein Air Base) in 2004, I attended several "treffens" (02 meets). Several Euro spec 02's at these meets had US spec bug eye turn signal lenses. Just goes to show you how we like to be different with Euro spec lenses, they like to be different as well. G-Man
  8. Jon, A $1500 dollar E21 is not a parts car, Keep scouring Craigslist, the Recycler, etc... and you will find lots of cheap E21 5 speed parts cars. Here are some parts cars that are close to you. I would bet the sellers would even negotiate on the price. http://sandiego.craigslist.org/car/125361925.html http://sandiego.craigslist.org/car/125864004.html http://orangecounty.craigslist.org/car/125977070.html Their are a few more in the Recycler for $750 or less Don't forget to look in the pik-a-part yards as well G-Man
  9. Jon, You think you are crazy, last year I owned three E3's at one time besides my tii. so I must be a really warped. I traded my 73 Ceylon Bav off (but I kept the Alpina's) to finance my restoration of my Euro spec E3 2800 (very rare). I fixed up the 73 Bav for my teenage daughter to drive. Had my tii engine rebuilt, now my daughter wants my tii, sorry tii's aren't for kids. Now my cars are done, I'm always looking for in Craigslist for that next project. I think it's going to be a E30 318is with M42 motor. Jon, I've seen your turbo at Bill Holmes shop in Ramona, it was sweet. Bill worked on all three of my BMW's while I was there. Having Bill's shop close by where I lived was a big plus of living in San Diego for the short time I was there. Bill is the tii guru... There has to be a 12 step program for people addicted to old BMW's.. 10. E30 bottlecap wheels can be found cheap at the salvage yard or on Craigslist. or local garage sale daily flyer. You be able to buy a set of 4 for around $100-125 bucks. Go with 195/60HR14 tires. Buy your tires through the Tire Rack link on 2002FAQ.com so a portion will go back to supporting this list. Sumitomo's go for about 40 each, great tire for the price. i do receommend going with 195/65-14, stay with the 60's. G-Man
  11. Pat, That is great news. You paid $600 for a parts car that you know the history of. Now it's time for you to find another project car that you can start transferring a lot of your parts into. Everyone who has a 30 year old car needs a parts car. When you have an 02 parts car, it's a sure sign that you have a serious case of 02itis. G-Man 74 2002tii 73 Bavaria 70 2800
  12. I've never seen 16" Alpina wheels in 4 lug, I've only seen them in five lug for E3/E9/E12 etc.. models G-Man
  13. Does any one know anything about this car? Looks perfectly stock, no sunroof. Sahara is frowned upon by some owners as to boring, to the owner of this car, Sahara looks real green. http://www.barrett-jackson.com/auctionresults/common/cardetail.asp?id=181901
  14. and it's in CA where it still has to be smog tested every two years. This ad is in the Recycler, http://www.recycler.com/ladefault.asp Click on car and trucks, then 82 or earlier vehicles, go to BMW and 25 miles out from zip code 90245 to see the ad with pics. Something tells me it will be for sale for some time and we'll see it a lower price soon. I emailed the owner, he said no smog gear was put back on the car, he's looking for an out of state buyer. I guess we'll see it on Fleabay soon. I think the owner hit the crack pipe a few too many times asking that much. More power to him if he can get it. 15. When I was in the Air Force stationed in Germany in the early 80's, my roomate had a 71 2002 with the same type of paint sceme, except it was Colorado with a black stripe on the side. If I ever get a Colorado car, I will paint it the same way. I should have bought that car off of him..., instead I got a 75 Sahara 1802. Now I've got a 74 Sahara tii, what's with me and sahara 02's.. G-Man 74 tii 73 Bav 70 2800
  16. Vroomer, check your inbox at work, I sent you something. I miss my bimmers, I've got 90 days in a Pontiac Vibe, the rental car agency first wanted to give me a Kia Rio but being 6'4", she didn't think I would fit very well in it. I dropped off my tii with coupeking in LA for some work on it while I'm gone. When I fly back to LA in April, I'll go straight to his shop to pick it up. The next day after my return is Bimmerfest in Santa Barbara. New location this year, The Earl Warren showgrounds (much larger venue). I hope the CA 02 crowd makes a strong showing this year to upstage the E36 & E46 crowd. Maybe we can ask for a parking area just for 2002's? For more info, go to http://www.bimmerfest.com/events/2006SB/2006sb.php It was amazing how much money was tied up in rims and stereo gear for the late model cars, some cars had more money in stereo gear then my tii was worth. 20 & 22 inch rims everywhere, It was insane... 17. this 76 2002 was in the 2002 FAQ for sale forum, located in SE Texas http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,267853/
  18. Patrick, Sucks to be you, been there and done that with my previous 02's. You didn't say if it was your fault or the other drivers. If it's your fault and you didn't have collision insurance (that's typical for a 30 year old car), then it really sucks. If it's your fault, you now have a parts car. If it's the other drivers fault, make sure you tell the insurance company that you want to buy your 02 back for salvage value. Everyone that has a 30 year old car needs a parts car. When my 02 was totaled by a driver running a red light, I bought it back for $500. So instead of getting a check for $3500 for a totalled car, I got a check for $3000 and they delivered the car to where ever I wanted. My 02 was hit in the front like yours, I totally stripped the car (interior, trunk lid, doors, window glass, rear bumper, etc..) and took a sawzall to the car, cut the 1/4 panels, roof (sunroof clip) rear panel, and spare tire well off the 02. Cut the front end off to facilitate pulling your engine out. Pull the gear box, rear end, trailing arms, etc... Your 02 should look like buzzards finished it off when you are through stripping it. Be aware that your gearbox may be scrambled eggs as a result of the front end collision. My 5 speed was good only for a boat anchor after the collision, the engine was put into another 02 and it's still running today. Since you had a 76 02, their are some great deals on 76 02's out in CA since 76 is the only year of 02's that has to under go CA smog testing. 75 and earlier 02 are much more desirable here in CA and thier prices reflect that as compared to 76 02's. I can show you ads for a good 76 2002 here in CA for about 1K, Keep looking in Craigslist, the 2002FAQ for sale forum, Collecter Car Trader Online. You'll find one. You'll make lemonade out of lemons, trust me. G-Man 74 tii 73 Bavaria 70 2800
  19. Vroomer, Sorry to steal your thread, email me, I found you a E30 325ix in So Cal G-Man gparr02tii@earthlink.net
  20. look in the bmw2002faq for sale forum, I posted a listing of Craigslist ads with 2002's for sale yesterday. G-Man
  21. I totally agree, Trust me, you don't want to drive a 2002 with dual Weber 40DCOE carbs on the street, tuning the carbs is a constant battle. Keep your tii mechanical fuel injection. If you have problems with your tii injection system, contact this list for recommendations for a shop in your area that knows how to tune a tii. Most BMW mechanics are clueless on Kugelfischer injection, it's old school to them. I've had repair shops tell me they don't work on BMW's with carbs, reason: they don't know how to work on carbs.G-Man 74 2002tii 73 Bavaria, with dual webers, 5 speed, Alpina's 70 E3 2800, Euro spec, totally stock to include dual Zenith Carbs
  22. and the dual wiper blades and mirror. What's with the glass pack muffler? I'm wondering if it has a coffee can exhaust. I'm surprised that the wheels, grill and bumper aren't painted to match the rest of the car. Please buy this 02 and save it. http://www.craigslist.org/sfc/car/123162433.html G-Man
  23. Vroomer, You can't take your 02 to the Springs. Do you know how rare it is for a BMW 2002 in CA to have an original black plates? All the times I've been to 02 fest west in SLO or to the Bay Area 02 swap & show, I've only seen a couple of them. Sell your car to an enthusiast here in CA who will take car of your black plate 02. Don't take it out of state, You know I could find you another nice 02 in CA with white plates. Once it gets to the Springs, it doesn't matter what plates it has since it will have CO plates on it then. Just my 02 cents worth. 24. Al, as you head north Friday on the 101 from Santa Barbara, I'll be headed south from Santa Maria toward LA, I'll catch you next time. G-man
  25. Al, after you pick up the car E28 in Santa Barbara, which way are you headed back north? Just wondering since I'm in North Santa Barbara county. Gordon
