  1. I'm up near Portland and a member of the PNW2002 club. I could probably have a look at it. Drop me a line... jwcurryATyahooDOTcom Best, Jerry
  2. So, I just purchased an agave 72 car. It's the first non-parts car I've ever had that still has the original single bbl Solex. This car actually runs well, really well. It's a total driver and I'm shocked, amazed and astonished at how well a single bbl Solex performs. The car actually starts easier, even when bone cold & wet, than any Weber I've ever had. However, I think that has to do with the hotter coil that's on this car. Man, that's a good upgrade. But, the car gets nice mileage and is very responsive in the lower part of the power band. Now, the Solex does poop out when in 4th & 5th and you try to get on it. There's not much response like a Weber. However, from a dead stop that carb gives you almost all the pwer you'd want. There's an older mechanic in the Portland area, Mike O'Hara, that swears by Solex'es and is dismissive of Webers. I've always thought he was too fixated on maintaining a stock set-up and was just too "old-school". However, I think he's got a point. These 1bbl Solex's when well sorted just flat-out work well. Surprised the heck out of me. Course, I do have a 32/36 on my 75 "soon-to-be" parts-car and a 38/38 on my eventualy "to-be-restored" 70. Heh...... I guess my point is to seriously give this little carb a try before jumping to upgrade. You might be statisfied with what you have. Jerry
  3. ..........for a good price. I picked up a straight, and largely rust-free, 72 agave car today that has probably enough issues that I don't want to restore it. So, it's going to be a nice stock driver as I start restoring my early 70 sunroof car. It's hard for me, mentally, to think about a fully restored car. One that you wince over each and every metallic noise caused by a rock kicked up on the road.....or worry about someone opening their car door into your pristine paint job. I love having a car, that's still well above a parts-car, to just well....um, drive. CLANK, a rock hits it.......who cares! Drive on. I find those to be the most satisfying of 02's to own and drive. I picked one up today and I feel pretty good about that. Best, Jerry Salem, OR
  4. I recently bought all new suspension/steering components from AutohausAZ. Haven't installed them yet. But, soon...... I thought, they were solid quality replacement parts. So, I made the purchase. Jerry
  5. ....that's actually the car that I long to own one day. Rear engine. Very 02'ish....but different. Probably a pure-t nightmare to find parts....but I sure do love them. That one is a pile though. Jerry
  6. ....any kind of name. Then register under another name after you've worn that one out. I seriously doubt that requiring registering will have any effect. Best advice: it's the Internet and you have to either a) grow thick skin or learn to ignore the jerks. I wish people were more respectful or knew when to let a topic go......but alas....'tis not to be. Jerry
  7. ....like the other post there for your Alpina stuff. Jerry
  8. ...and there's probably about a dozen of us, including me, all circling around ready to pounce on an available manifold. So, I think it's going to be tough going. But, you've got as good a chance as anyone.
  9. ....some danged ebay'er who goes by the name "testyredhead" beats me to all the good stuff. HEH.... Jerry Curry Salem, OR
  10. I won an ebay auction for 4 of them AND purchased an extra set of 4 on the side. They look great and are going on my Cosmics once they are refurbed. Jerry Salem, OR
  11. Hey Ponyboy, could you drop me an email at: jwcurryATyahooDOTcom I'm very interested in getting your opinion about getting bodywork/paint done in Tijuana. Sounds like you had a VERY good experience. You can't argue with that price either. I'm considering making a long drive down from Oregon, leaving the car for a bit and......getting rechromed bumpers, recovered Recaros and paint/body work done. Has anyone else had good experience using shops located in Mexico? Anyone else have additional shops they'd recommend? Jerry Salem, OR
  12. They were located in a part of town, I didn't frequent. Although, I did drive by it quite often heading South down the Durham Freeway to my chemist jobs I had in the Research Triangle Park. I was a student and very young professional then....so, I was hanging out in the colleg'ey type places. It looks as though the former M&N facility is now a large British Car repair/sales outfit called "Flying Circus". Sounds like everyone has really good memories of M&N......which is very cool. Jerry
  13. Hello all.... I didn't get interested in 2002's until about 1999 or so. That was after, I moved to the West Coast. However, from 1987-1991 I resided in the Durham/Chapel Hill NC area. I had NO idea that Miller & Norburn even existed. I might have gotten interested in these great little cars even earlier if I had stumbled upon their shop. I just bought some M&N camber plates on Ebay and it got me thinking about the company. Can anyone tell me what year they ceased operation? Also, does anyone out there in the great collective 2002 mind, remember where the company was located? If I dig deeply into my memory.......I think I might recall a shop somewhere on the east side of town between Duke's east campus & downtown Durham. Perhaps, near the Brightleaf shopping area? Jerry
  14. ....whistles......expensive though. 15. I may well be interested in the springs/shocks. DaveB.....let me check into this, but I definitely don't need his sway bars. Aaron....I might want to have a drive and/or ride. I'm still worried about lowering because of the %#%$^ front air dam. ;-) Jerry
  16. 1) Roads AREN'T great in Oregon, once you get off the interstate. 2) ST spring are a relatively cheap option....as springs go.
  17. ......."butt-dyno", that made me laugh. Everyone has a differing opinion and a preference. I do know I can't lower the car too much because of my air dam and because I actually don't like the look of an overly lowered car. Also, I'm thinking an 02 riding on the ground is damn near an invisible object to an SUV....a.k.a. speed-bump. Of all the reading I did in the archives and what-not, what struck me were the following: a) a point an 02'er made that Bilsteins work better with linear springs. This made sense to me as I thought about it an engineering sense. Bilsteins sports are better with substantive lowering springs. c) folks that mentioned bottoming-out issues with HD's due to the "travel distance". This was mentioned more than once and frequent posters like John Weese even comment on it. Folks also mentioned that the back end of the car was too loose with HD's. That concerns me as the roads are great here in Oregon. I'm thinking "bottoming out" issues become more crucial with springs that drop the car even further than ST's. So, I'm going to go with ST's and either: 1) HD's all around 2) Sports in front, HD's in the rear Still have to decide. between those two options. One good thing, HD's are relatively speaking, a cheaper option. Jerry
  18. .....going with, Bilstein Sports in front and HD's in the rear. Along with the linear ST's in front. (or maybe Eibach's)..... No, no....ST's. That's still a tiny bit of a toss-up. I have a combo of new urethane & rubber bushings to go into my early 70. I'm planning on doing some spirited driving alng with some autocross. I hope its not too harsh. Going to use the combo of Sports/HD's in order to utilize the extra travel in the Sports. I do NOT want to bottom out. Also, I have a fibergalss airdam I do not want to lose so....I can't lower the car too much. Man alive....I read and read and read. Searched the archives, wrote out pros/cons on pieces of paper. This is what I came up with. Anything obvious or totally stupid I'm missing before I start ordering? Thanks, Jerry Curry Salem, OR
  19. .......that I've seen from US suppliers, have unsealed bearings and about 0.5" studs. This is regardless of manufacturer. If you find something different, let us know and bring them to a PNW2002 club meeting. I think you'll be fine with OEM with a strut bar. The camber plates give me some pause. If only because I want to buy some and run with them also. Jerry Salem, OR
  20. .......and replacing all the bits & pieces off of a 70 project. I thought the polyurethane seemed like a good idea and really shouldn't stiffen up things too much. CD the other day mentioned that the purpose of these mounts was really only to prevent the top part of the shock from rattling around in the shock towers and doing some damage to the metal. I would think it would only come into play during the most spirited of driving or after encountering some rather large "bumps in the road". So, I'm going to give it a try. I've heard mention that the stock units last damned near forever....so, these poly ones should also do the same. I'll report back sometime about how they installed, if they changed the ride, etc.... I've bought things from this seller multiple times and they do seem really really nice. I'd love to visit their shop. Now, you have my curiosity really piqued. Zion is quite close to where my parents live. Maybe on my next visit home. Jerry Curry Salem, OR
  21. ....and taken off Craigslist FAST. Might have already been sold. Jerry
  22. ....and taken off Craigslist FAST. Might have already been sold. Jerry
  23. I'm guessing they were removed. Perhaps, even removed by the dealer for some reason-or-another. As I understand it, only early 1600's came without sways. Jerry
  24. ...now would that be like an OJ Simpson glove? If so, I don't know if I'd want that set. ;-) Sorry....too much egg nog last night. Happy Holidays everyone...... Jerry
  25. ....in your career and with that agave 02, I sold you. Best wishes, Jerry
