  1. I'm thinking it's two different throwout bearing between the 2002 and the 320i. Autohausaz.com shows two different parts numbers, with the 320i bearing being much cheaper. $60!!!......for the 02 one. I'd sell mine for $25+shipping for anyone who needs one.....if it can be confirmed they are two different bearings. Thanks, Jerry
  2. I'm switching totally over to a 5-speed set-up and thus, getting rid of all of my 4-speed stuff.....tannies, drive lines, shifter platforms, etc... Gosh, I've gotten rid of 3 4-speeds over the last 2 days. I found a new throw-out bearing......that is for an 02 and probably came with a tranny in a parts deal awhile back. I was wondering if this throw-out bearing will work with the 320i 5-speed tranny? Lastly, I have 1 4-speed tranny left and it's missing the drain plug. Does anyone have one they would sell say, off of a trashed tranny? If so, please drop me a line at jwcurryATyahooDOTcom I'd like to pass along this tranny down the line to someone that needs one. Many thanks, Jerry
  3. .......Rimspoke cares about Rimspoke.....my goodness. That's totally preposterous. Esty.....I'm sorry, that's totally uncalled for. They are his fasteners and he can do what he wants with them. He owes all of us NOTHING......and besides, he's been on these boards providing good advice. Bid on his stuff like everyone else. Sometimes the deals on his auctions are great. I totally disagree with his politics, but I totally respect the man.....and have purchased his products, via Ebay. I'm satisfied with the purchase and with his way of doing business. Jerry
  4. ....in picking up a Volvo 240. In my case, it is an 82 242......in the fabulous original Volvo color of red-grey.....a dusty rose color. Ok, ok...it's damned near pink....what's it to ya? Best part....$250 for a great running, little-to-no body ding/dents/damage car. Man alive, these things are tanks..... It'll do until I get an 02 back on the road. Jerry
  5. Hello all...... I'm getting ready to purchase the 5-speed conversion kit from Rob @ 2002Haus. http://www.2002haus.com/kit/index.htm Before I do so, I was hoping to hear back from anyone else who has bought this with respect to pros/cons. Rob's WWW pages mention that it is a bolt-on and so far, I've only heard really positive things. $500 for the kit alone is a substantial out-go....so, I want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. I already have the 5-speed tranny, drive line and what not...... It's funny, both the 75 and the 72's I picked up that were already converted, were done so VERY poorly. Basically they drilled a piece of flat steel against the chassis and bolted it in. Ugh.... I want the 5-speed conversion to be done right on my 70 sunroof car. Thanks in advance, Jerry
  6. I thought it was a comment on how to make your 02's suspension even stiffer. I was looking for a source for this new Viagra product....but neither TEP nor Ireland could help me. SMIRK.... Jerry
  7. ....appears to be all-original and it's painted as C.D. mentioned, a satin black. Perhaps, as in seemingly all things BMW, from that time period.....they painted these whatever color they had on hand. Guessing either black or gray although. However, they may have painted them different colors depending upon the exterior color of the car. So, I bet yours is original (gray) and mine is also, original (black). Jerry
  8. ....coming up from Portland. Add me to the beer & chitchat and cross-country socializing list. Jerry
  9. ......than eshocks.com That Ebay price is awfully tempting, $30+ cheaper than Sox.com Jerry
  10. Alpina paint schemes were a combo flat black/colorado. I have seen, one picture....in Black & White....of a team mechanic servicing an Alpina car. The engine compartment was light colored, which must mean it was Colorado. Inka/Black would look cool. I'm not sure Malaga/Black would have enough contrast to be particularly great looking.....but go for it! Jerry
  11. ...downtown Grants Pass, OR on Friday (06/30) around 5. I saw a golf roundie parked. Has a University of Oregon decal in the back window. Pr etty nice looking car. I was on my way back from Sonoma and stopped in GP for dinner. By the way, NICE driving road in Sonoma, Lake, Mendicino, and Del Norte counties. Also, nice driving roads in parts of Josephine County, Oregon Anyone else around here, perhaps? Best, Jerry
  12. Hey Jim... I've got a 75 with a 5-speed conversion that will be parted out. I also have a great 72 driver (w/ 5-speed) and a 70, I'm planning to totally restore. Yes, I do have parts....drop me a line at jwcurryATyahooDOTcom Sorry for the personal thread folks....moving it off-faq. Jerry
  13. .......I'd be damned happy to buy you a cup of joe and talk about those Cosmic wheels of yours. Jerry
  14. Welcome back to the world of 02's and that's a fine looking car you picked up there. The 2nd 02 I ever owned, a 71, I purchased from Jim. A great guy. My girlfriend and I took the Amtrak down from Portland, bought the car from Jim, and drove it back to Oregon. Good to see you 'round these parts, Jim. Jerry Curry Salem, OR
  15. I'll be in St. Louis from Wednesday through Sat. of next week. I'm in town for a music festial I'm a part of....Twangfest, which is held at the Duck Room in the Delmar Loop. I'd love to perhaps meet you because.....I have a 70 I'm going to restore and I love the idea of a two-tone paint scheme. So, I'd love to see your car and perhaps take a couple of pics. It sure has the look I think I'm going for. Also, I'd love to hear more about that BMW shop in town w/ the 10 or so 02's moldering in the back. It would be fun to take a ride by it. My email is jwcurryATyahooDOTcom Anyway, beer's on me. Nice to meet another 02'er while in town. Don't ask to see my ride, as I'll have some mighty sub-compact rental dealie. Jerry Curry Salem, OR
  16. The owner matched a 67 steering wheel on a 68 dash. I re-read the Craigslist ad. I guess the chrome dashes were gone by the end of the 67 model year. Jerry
  17. First of all, its not mine...nor do I know the owner. http://losangeles.craigslist.org/car/166398019.html However, what I did want to comment upon is a certain unique feature of the interior. That's an EARLY steering wheel that was gone sometime during 1968. I've never seen that steering wheel on either a 69 1600 or a 69 2002. What I've never seen before is that early wheel with the regular chrome-free 3 piece dash that all of we early 02 owners know and love. Typically, you'd find a chrome strip running the length of the dash. Those early dashes, with the chrome and the integrated heater control, and hazard switch mounted underneath are my VERY favorite. I think, although, I can't see the instrumetnts very well...that this 1600 has a clock instead of a tach. This really does added credence to the throught that Hans and Co....grabbed pretty much anything off of the parts bins while assembling these cars. Oops.....out of early chrome dashes but we still have early steering wheels. No problem.....mix & match. Of course, I am assuming this Florida car (lovely color, by the way) is bone stock. Pardon my rambline, it's nearly 2:00AM and this is the last thing I'm doing before hitting the hay. Jerry
  18. It was the angle the pictures were taken. I got it now. Thanks for the pictures, Les & Duke. Jerry
  19. Here are two Ebay auctions.......for old style door brakes. 1) used door brakes - Auction #4642728634 2) an NOS door brake - Auction #8068093822 They look completely different. Are the used ones actually broken? Mind you, I'm NOT calling the Ebay seller of the used brakes into question. I'm actually trying to learn what a good "older style" door brake looks like as compared to a broken one. I'm wondering why the two Ebay items look different. I'm assuming when the door opens widely and the brakes well....break, the steel folded over itself straightens out. Currently, on my 02's, I have functioning door brakes......but I'd like to buy spares and if so, I'd like for them to be good. Jerry
  20. ........tan/tobacco are about the shades of seats I do not have. Black and blue, I have a number of stock seats. Dang.... Jerry
  21. I have a bunch of stock seats....some decent, some not so much. I'm also located in Salem, OR....just down the road. Let me know what you are looking for, i.e. color. Jerry Curry Salem, OR jwcurryATyahooDOTcom
  22. Hello all.... I have a line on a C/R steering box (yep, its red) mounted in a car that is currently for sale. I can/will drive the car before making an offer on the box. What I need to know, particularly since this fellow is a friend....what's a fair price to offer? He's perhaps, open to selling the box alone....replacing w/ a regular box, and then putting the car up for sale again. All replies, guesses, estimates....are welcome. Jerry
  23. "but we all know how the solex works.....". I don't know about the stock 2bbl Solex, but there's been some threads around here of late about how darned well the stock 1bbl Solex works. I sure do love my 1bbl Solex on my 72. Bulletproof, non-temperamental and just plain works. Responsive too, up until you reach high RPM. Give those Solex's another try. Somebody ought to take this fellow up on his "free" offer. Jerry
  24. just asking...... The seller ran the ad throughout the weekend. Looks like I may have to go up for you afterall? Jerry Salem, OR
  25. ....but perhaps it's been there at times. The stuff is so cheap it would cost more to ship it than to just buy it yourself. Actually, jute is really easy to find. Just pop into any auto upholstry shop and pull out a little green. They'll sell you all the jute you want. I've bought a few rolls for my 02's over the years. I can't quite remember how much you need.......but I'm sure I paid under $20 each time. I think I still have a couple rolls floating around in my basement. I think a better way to go is something like Fatmat and then the carpet kit over the top. Another option to locate jute is if you have a great material shop in/around your town. In the Portland area, we have one called the Mill End Store. They carry jute and actually some really cool neoprene sort of stuff. I decided against the neoprene stuff since you need something that wicks moisture off the metal floorboard and doesn't hold it in. Jerry
