  1. Egads! Someone should buy and kilt it. Kill it dead. JC If link doesn't work: Item # 150342151882 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/L-K-1-OF-A-KIND-BMW-320-CONV-SHOW-CAR-MUST-C-FREESHIP_W0QQitemZ150342151882QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Cars_Trucks?hash=item150342151882&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245&_trkparms=72%3A317|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318
  2. I have my 2.5 sets of 3-piece uncracked dashes all stashed in my basement where it is cool and the temperature is relatively stable. Each dash component is wrapped in plastic and kept inside of a box. So, exposure to light or a UV source should be minimized. I also wiped each of them down with a Lexol product. Other than that, I don't know what to do. As for sources for the lettering, not a clue. I believe I bought a 5-speed shift pattern decal from Keith Kreeger. He might still have them and I suppose you could alter one to make a 4-speed pattern if your dash is missing that. Possible you could ask him how he created these and do the very same for the missing lettering. Jerry
  3. SO.......big fat hair deal. "It's not unusual", that you....Tom Jones....would be looking for an 02. So, "what's new pussycat?" Har Har.... Jerry
  4. Try the PNW2002 group: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/PNW2002/ I think I have a suspicion what car you want to someone to have a look at for you. Good luck. I'm in Salem, about 45 mins. South....so, hopefully a PDX person will step up. Regards, JErry
  5. Would like to find a good one used, instead of hunting down a new one. Let me know if you have one you'd like to part with. Also, please let me know your price. I'm more than willing to pay what one is worth. Click the email next to my name in this post or see below. Many thanks, Jerry jwcurryATyahooDOTcom
  6. He posted on 10/08 to a thread in the FS section. There was a fellow selling a 5-speed conversion kit and Rob commented on the thread. Maybe he's out on vacation....... Jerry
  7. Autohaus AZ had one of the horns for $11.00. Don't remember if it was the high or low note. But that's pretty cheap. Jerry
  8. Hello folks, I was pawing through my parts stash while helping a buddy with his new 1976 3.0si. Neither of the original 02 Hella horns I brought to give him worked. Ok, then tested them on his square tail. No go there. I've hardly ever seen horns go bad, but I don't think either of these are operational. So, looking to buy a "working" Hella horn. Not the flat kind, but the snail kind that came stock on at least, roundies. Thanks, Jerry jwcurryATyahooDOTcom
  9. Howdy from another Oregon owner... You might want to have a look at our local PNW BMW 2002 yahoogroup. It's at: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/PNW2002/ Jerry Curry Salem, OR 1976 2002 1970 2002 - still deciding what to do with it
  10. Thanks for some reason, I thought it was fuses 4 & 5 and I cleaned those contacts. I wasn't near an owner's manual. However, I'll clean up the contacts for fuse #9 in the AM. Thanks for the tips..... Jerry
  11. No low beam on driver's side. Have low on passenger and high-beam on both. I replaced the bulb with a new one, which is a halogen set-up in this 76 I recently bought. Same situation, no change. Looked at the fuses, nothing blown. Noticed the switch in the dash was working itself lose so, I screwed it back in tight. No change. Can't be the bulb. Can't be the switch if one side turns on. Can't be the fuses. Or am I missing something? I'll recheck the wiring........ Any advice would be great. I was hoping to take the 02 on a long ride to Washington State tomorrow. Hate to get pulled over. Jerry
  12. .....actually, and you aren't going to believe this, I do have one of Al's last sets in nylon. It's black and completely unopened. I'm planning on selling it for $175 or so. I'll have to take pictures of the 70. It needs restoration and needs rust repair in/around the rear wheel arches. Has a nice strong engine in the car which replaced the blown original. Has a newly rebuilt 38/38, petronix, all new spark plug wires, exhaust manifold shield from 320, etc... Needs an interior although it will be sold with recaros that need work. Also needs front end work. I'm looking to get around $850 for the car. It's an early 70 that will make a good project. Jerry PS: I have about 50 emails to respond to, so it's either going to A) take awhile to get back to you or I'm just going to put stuff up on the FAQ piece-by-piece. I'll try option A in the order of receipt as best as I can.
  13. Probably some of you know the drill. I went through the finality of the break-up of a 4 yr. relationship. The final shoe fell yesterday. So, I wasn't thinking and while upset put this post on the main board. My apologies. She pretty much hated any kind of older car and never understood the attraction. They are "ugly boxy things". Oh well...... In any case, I'd like to buy a nice comfortable home and don't want to take everything along for the move. I'll keep the 76 anthrazit sunroof car for a good long time. I took it for a good long drive yesterday after our final conversation and it was really a restorative experience. What I really need to keep interested in owning older cars is a house with a garage. The 1919 house I'm in now is sweet, but no garage and no room for one either. A LOT of you have written and I'll be writing back with availability, price, etc...... I'll also be posting things with some regularity over on the FS board. I prefer to sell things here on the board rather than via Ebay. Jerry PS: Also if you have a line on a restored Porsche 914 once I move into this house with a garage, let me know.... ;-) PPS: f1reverb, there's still plenty of 02'ers down in the Willamette valley South of PDX. In fact, I know I'll run into a restored roundie I can't pass up one day around here.
  14. Hello folks, I'm going to sell off all of my 02 bits in order to increase the down payment amount I can put down on a house. Don't worry, I may well be back and I will be driving a 76 02 until it's the last 02 related item I sell. Maybe I'll even keep it. I have about 10 years worth of parts including 2-3 uncracked 3-piece dashes, NOS early tachometer, tons of replacements parts, climate control plates in German, and also....tons of early roundie parts. 5-speed parts, new hard brake lines, etc.... I also have an early 70 sunroof car, originally Colorado in color that needs to move. So, stay tuned and in the meantime let me know if I have something you might need. Jerry
  15. I'm actually not sure Al is in business right now. Anyone heard a peep from him? Jerry
  16. If I put something up for sale on the FAQ, I will attempt to get in touch with the first person to post a response. However, if it takes me awhile to get back on the FAQ and multiple people have responded via FAQ or email, I will always respond in this order: (1) an Oregon 02'er (2) a Pac NW 02'er (3) order of post/email response Now, if I'm in communication with a person from anyone from these three groups and they are responding......communicating, etc...., the transaction is theirs until the funds have arrived and the item is shipped. If they fail to keep in communication, then I go back to my above order. Another thing to consider when posting a response, is that someone off-FAQ has Emailed the seller thus, reaching you ahead of time before the post.....or before the seller has noticed a reply to a post. A lot of us have enabled email contact via the FAQ as well. This disconnect could cause some problems, hard feelings, etc.... Jerry
  17. Actually, I don't see much of any risk with buying a car on Ebay if you can get over to see the car immediately after the purchase before sending a deposit. Of course, it's much better if you can inspect the care beforehand. However, I wouldn't have one bit of a problem walking away from a closed auction that I won if, and only if, the car was misrepresented. Really....the worst that is going to happen is you'll get negative feedback. No biggie. I would think if something went to court, after documenting the difference between the ad and reality....you'd be fine if things went down that road. Jerry
  18. John, I'm sincerely sorry to read this. Please draw upon the strength of this 02 community as you & yours regain your footing. best wishes....... Jerry
  19. Hello from Salem..... I live over by the State Capitol. If I can ever be of any help, please let me know. I have a ton of excess parts. Jerry Salem, OR
  20. You might want to talk to fellow FAQ board member, pbryantr. I sold him an early 1600 along that I purchased off of Ebay. It was sitting in a Kansas wheatfield. He's in the process of restoring it. He's also, I believe....in Texas. I've had at least 2 of those early steering wheels. People do love them. To me however, they remind me too much of 60's American cars. I do love the early 1600's, particularly the chrome dash and the position of the hazard lights. Oh, and the console is so cool. Jerry
  21. I think 10K plus for an automatic is overpriced and I'd definitely take a pass. For...an....automatic... However, the comments regarding how much it really costs to do a fine restoration versus a 10K car in really fine shape seem really valid to me. Heck, I'm looking at a fairly pricey restoration for my early 1970 sunroof 02. I often think about these great 8K-12K cars that come up for sale and think, "go & do that, it'll be cheaper in the long run". Jerry
  22. As I go "back & forth" considering other vintage cars to own, I find that the Fiat X1/9 remains a stone cold steal. Not a steal on terms of resale, but damned cheap to get into. However, the car that has really caught my fancy and I find to be fairly in-reach is the Porsche 912. I've been seeing really nice early 912's (mid-to-late 60's) in the mid-teens. Now, that doesn't include a targa but still....... I definitely see a 912 in my future. Jerry
  23. I *strongly* disagree with exactly 50% of much of the advice you've been given above. It is true, the car will totally fall apart if exposed to the Indy winters and particularly so, given on-street parking during the winter. You might get a year, two years.....maybe 3....out of it. However, you can recoup a good deal of your $1700 purchase price if you are willing to part out the car. Also, this might be the 02 that...surprise.....gets you hooked into acquiring another 02. If you are willing to eventually, part the car out and sell off the parts....I highly recommend buying it. I also, recommend trying to get the price down a bit. But, you'll hardly go wrong nor will you lose much by purchasing this car. One last thing, if the fact that this car will fall apart quickly serves to dissuade you from 02's.....then, I would pass it by and wait for a better 02 AND a time where you can properly maintain and store the car over the harsh Indiana winters. Jerry - who grew up in NW Indiana, near Gary and also......graduated from Purdue. So, I do remember those Indiana winters.
  24. I purchased from this outfit via Ebay, NO problems at all. I'd buy from again anytime. Jerry
  25. If you get a part number, please post it. I called my Nissan dealer today and they couldn't help me. I think this part would be kinda fun (and useful) to install on my 02. Jerry
