It's not widely known, but here is the secret...If you want one of these events in your own backyard, organize one for yourself!

These low-budget, multi-marque, vintage car events almost always fill up. The lower the budget, the more people want to show up. For me, and especially my wife, these tours beat the heck out of car shows. It's more of a rolling car show.

Back in January, we were going to go for a drive. We called a couple of friends who called a couple of friends. We ended up with 8 cars joining us for our drive.

I ran out of stickers for the Shamrock this year. I had to cut it off at thirty-something cars. This was all word-of-mouth and invite only entries. Had I advertised and opened it up, I could have had 50-60 cars. Maybe someday, but 30 cars is A LOT OF WORK.

So, listen to that Kevin Costner voice...if you put on the drive, they will come. Make it what you want. Invite who you want. BMWs or all Euro or anything of interest. There are some NICE roads up there in Oregon. How about a Hawaiian themed drive in and around Aloha, OR? Bikinis and flowered shirts, flip flops and slack-key guitar. Serve Mai-tais at the finish while you screen the Elvis concert in the background.

Too busy driving to try to take pics, but here are a few...

Our very eclectic group stops for a breather. Alfa, Mini, Alfa, Touring, and an occasional E-type or an orphan Porsche separated from the pack.

This could have been taken somewhere in France or Italy, but was right here in California.

Had to cut the trip short and head back home. Almost home, still smiling from 730 miles of great driving.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
