High capacity fuel tank--Part 2

Following up on my post from a few weeks ago, and the pictures to prove it!

The 18 gallon tank from an e9 bolted right into my '70.

-I had my muffler tweaked to clear, as it comes much closer to the spare tire well

-The trunk floor is about .75" higher

-Ground clearance directly beneath the tank is about .75" less, but the drain plug hangs no lower than the differential.

What year E9 was it? do you know?

I've been trying to find a cheap 2nd hand one - not easy in Oz - and I dont want to get the wrong year.

Wow, who'd a thunk it. Does the E9 float level work with the 02 gauge??? If it does, that's a pretty sweet setup.

I don't know the year of the 2800 this tank came out of, but as far as I've found, they should all be the same.

Great post - never seen that done before. I'd stick a bit of heat shield material on the tank next to the exhaust though.

Or maybe weld on some trick 'Alpina' cooling fins to that resonator.. LOL.

how long does it take your fuel gauge to go down? i would keep thinking my gauge is broken but it would just be full of gas. what about all that extra weight???

Since the tank is deeper and taller, I am sure you will need a longer gas gauge sender.

It is about 250mm deep and follows the same resistance full to empty as the 2002 unit and gauge.
