Sure! In #1 there's basic mechanical tools. #2 has some electrical tools and wire, plugs and socket, tape, zip-ties,...small box of bolts and nuts space for box of fuses (still missing), some fuel hose and clamps. Should be able to do at least something on the road if needed.

Got it running! Reset the "Req fuel"-parameter because the injectors are changed and it purrs great. First dizzy was a tooth off so it didn't start right away but after some troubleshooting - success.

I was also very lucky to find two new Bosch headlights from two different private sellers in Finland :-)

So close to actually drive the thing! It's still full winter here but it's good that I'm in time because we bought a house so some renovating and moving will take its' time during spring.

Thanks, because of that damn white stuff I'm not gonna enjoy roads in couple of months. You know that summer is short in Finland but good part is that there's not much snow during it.

Thanks Kris! About the donut I mentioned a page back

"I zoomed in one of the pics I have of the spacesaver - I think it says 105/70D14"

and I haven't actually checked the size but it's from Audi or VW. Point is that it fits in trunk and it fits over the brakes :-)

Installed hood, plates, wipers, grilles, finished engine bay with stickers and new plug wires. As said in dubois' instructions adjusting hood is one of the most difficult tasks , it took the average 4 hours. Trunk would be ready too but I was delivered too small piece of vinyl to recover both floor boards.

Now that the project is very close to finish I can pull together some numbers. Plan was 10 000 euros and two years. Since it's about same if I finish for autumn or next spring I'd say I'm in target with the timeframe. Finding time from the painter took few months when there wasn't happening much and for the mentioned reason I didn't rush. Moneywise the budget was nearly correct. Sheetmetal took more than planned because I had to get new oem quarter panels which wasn't planned. I thought it over and spent extra 1400e on them. Total was 12 000 euros which came roughly from:

highpressure wash of body 1200

sheetmetal 3200

painting 3000

interior 1100

exhaust 300

brakes 400

wheels 400

Suspension 400

others 2000

The car in beginning state was valued as zero but nevertheless I sold some parts (wheels, bilsteins) which are counted as benefit in the numbers. This is all material apart from painting as all other work was done by myself or free as a favor. Rust proofing stuff was sponsored.

Everything that was done is documented in this blog - meaning old engine, gearbox and differential etc. was not touched internally. I think I worked about 15...20 hours a week as an average. That would total about 2000 hours - I have no idea how correct estimation that is.

I hope this helps somebody planning a project. I will take some shots of the finished product as soon as it's possible to take it out. Here's the trunk as finished.

Your car is just amazing, congrats on finishing. Your metal working sections were extremely helpful when I was replacing the floor pans on my car. This thread, along with a couple others, should seriously be stickied in this section as the must reads for anyone with an 02.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
