Thanks to you all!

I zoomed in one of the pics I have of the spacesaver - I think it says 105/70D14 on the tire and I know it's 14". It fits nicely over the Volvo brake upgrade and e21 drums which original spare didn't clear. It's from some Audi or VW.

Fantastic pictures on the paintjob.

May I ask you what was the color code you used for the struts. It is that grayish type of black.

Thank you and well done on your project.

Thanks! The paint I used for suspension is semi gloss industrial epoxy, color code RAL7021. I don't know how close it is to original but good enough for me.

Thank you Tommy for the response.

That RAL code as close to original subframe color as I have seen. My subframe is still in the original color and will use the RAL code as reference for touch up paint.

Do you or anyone knows the black RAL code for differential?

Great community we have here online, appreciate the response.

JP, I think RAL9005 is as good as any black for differential. Here's pretty good RAL chart but you can find many from Google.

Mike, no you didn't miss it. I haven't done one a post because the job was done already couple of years ago before I started this full restoration. I've thought about making a post about my Megasquirt installation.

Briefly: I drilled and sleeved the injector holes. Ground some more room for fuel rail and made mounts for it. Made an adapter plate for throttle body. 318i fuel rail outlets were moved to better fitting locations and pressure regulator was relocated away from the rail. Rail mods were done by brazing with silver.

Now that it came up I installed ECU and throttle linkage so I can show my Mega-setup. I'm using Megasquirt'n'Spark with Crane XR3000 ignition. Intake is from early K-Jetronic injected 320i which was modified for electric injectors. Throttle body is probably from e30 320i or 325i but I'm not sure. Anyway it's about the size as in tii and fitted easily with simple adapter plate. Throttle linkage is homemade but follows original principle. ECU is installed in glovebox for easy access. Relays and fuses just fit beside glowebox under the dash. Same homemade mount carries also the XR3000 box and they all fit under original cover.

I will use tii airfilter so the appearance will be very much like original tii. Of course anyone of you will notice it but someone might think it's all original.

Mounted the seats...very happy about how they look in the car! Then hanged the doors roughly there, put some damping and rust proofing stuff inside and so on.

How pretty door handles once were on cars...:-)

  • 2 weeks later...

Front hubs and brakes are put together so now she's on her feet for the first time. I believe the drive height will set down a tad from there.

Drivers side door windows and seals are there. I tried generic profile seal as an emergency solution because Wallothnesch is out of seals. It may be just good enough to stay permanent.

7x15" ET 27 with 205/50/15 results nice couple of millimeters clearance pretty much everywhere. I need to add just a bit to steering stops because at full lock the tire just touches the sway bar. At front the tire pushes out just a little too much even with the camber plates. It won't rub but the look is not perfectly what I like - It's not bad though. I'm afraid the fenders are a bit more narrow than originals. Rear is perfect. With this ride height control arms are in good angle so that camber gain is still in the right direction.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
