Looks like an E21 M20 sports 5-speed (dogleg).

Won't fit a 2002...

isn't this fun? I can read the writing on the case, so I know it is a 5spd out of an e21, the only question is which version.

The first pix is of two e-21 transmissions, the one on top is a CR 5 speed dogleg transmission that DID come out of a 2002. The one on the bottom is 5 speed from an e-21

Here are some markings from the CR 5 speed from an e-21 that came out of a 2002

looks like a 2002 tranny--note the position of the clutch slave cylinder down low on the side--the E21 five speeds all have 'em on the top (where they're a real pain to change out when installed). It's got the 80mm plug between the main case and the end plate--a dead giveaway for a five speed.

And the shortening job on the shift platform is just what the factory did--cut and weld a four speed platform. So...it may be a CR 2002 5 speed... keep your fingers crossed.

First pic should be a 235/5 2002 CR 5 speed box.

Second pic should be a 240 late 320i 5 speed box, although without seeing the rear of the trans, it could be out of a 318i as well.

Tried to find a part # on ROEM,but none of these #'s are identified.Different # on rear of case,and on inside of housing.Which one do you go by?

that's the casting number for the housing,

not the whole box...

Bringing this thread back because I am still a tranny newb, whats this one. Oh and there is about 4-5 getrag 235/5's on ebay.de right now.
