panasport question...real vs. knock-offs..

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I want to get a set of panasports for my soon to arrive 73, likely 14's, maybe 15's. Anyone have any experience with the quality of an old set vs. some of the new look-alikes I see everywhere. I do not have any reservations about using new but Weight and quality issues will affect the decision. Any and all recommendations are welcome-don't be shy. Any recommendations regading expected price range ( anyone got panasports for sale?) are great as well. Chris

you can get the Konig rewind for about $100 each they are also lighter and i have had several sets of Konig wheels and they have all been quality wheels. although i don't know the offset of the panasports the konig is a 40mm offset

the konig's are

4x114.3 bolt pattern as far as I know bmw 2002's are 4x100

So I'm not sure how you think they would fit???

The Rota RB is available in a 4x100, 13x8, ET4 (IIRC). Found this pict online (not my car):

I'm actually running these on my autox prepped '89 Corolla. I know they are not true panasports, but I really like the way they look. Overall quality seems good enough for my purposes, and if you look around several Miata autoxers are also running them. Good overall value, and you don't have to run their centercaps. :)

Not positive if they still produce them, but you should still be able to find em for about $100 a piece.

I've been thinking about running em on my '68 1600 as well. Not positive how they would fit without flares tho. Nice to be able to share wheels between my different car, even tho they are 21 years apart!

"knock offs" are just as good nowadays. As long as they are TUV approved and so on and so forth. Panasports in my humble opinion is way overpriced. I'm sure the Yen VS the dollar is ultimately affecting the price. I would consider weight, quality, cost and of course design. Just my 2 cents.

to add to my post Above. I'm running a set of gunmetal Rota RB's. 15X7 ET30 polished lip. Each wheel weighs 14lb (lighter than the superlite). slightly less than the panasports and half the cost of a new set. Either way, your car will look good. Best of luck

Pack racing has panasprot knock-offs, very light and good price, too.

I dont think Superlites are necessarily "knock offs" of Panasports so to speak. If anything, they are all (anything with a similar design) knock offs of Minilites. However they all seem to be good wheels and each has a slightly different styling cue (from what i can see)

OZ is right in my view. Minilites isb the original and the rest are "knockoffs" if you prefer to call like that.

I have a set of 14x6 Panasports for sale kris dot c dot tobias at gmail dot com

Achilles, I would jump on this big time. Kris is a stand up guy and I can vouch for him. I almost bought his rims and I asked a lot of questions about the condition. Thay are in good shape. I just decided to go with 15" otherwise I would have bought his set.

I purchased them through Pack Racing. Great company to deal with.

I agree with the others, if anything, all of this style of wheel are knock-offs of vintage minilites.

My Superlites were less expensive and a bit heavier than the panasports. They are a very strong wheel though with an excellent finish. Been driving on them everyday for year now and they still look like new. You can also get a 10 spoke version too.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
