  1. Thanks for the replies everyone. I checked the stub axle and thankfully that black line was just dirt/grease. Whew! Checking on realoem.com it looks like the dims/parts are the same between my 4/1968 production and later models. Thanks, Alan
  2. I'm in the process of redoing the suspension and brakes on my '68 1600 and am ready to order new wheel bearings. My strut housings do not have any brake tab and when I pulled the rotor off, the outer bearing is a tapered roller bearing. My VIN is 1564823, and I've searched on the FAQ but am still confused since I thought maybe I'd be dealing with a smaller INNER bearing. Can I just order the standard wheel bearing kit from IE or is there another magical setup I need to be using? Thanks!
  3. Looking for a set of IE stage 2 springs in SF Bay Area. Thanks!
  4. Thanks for the responses. Although I can take it down to the store and “see what fits”, I was thinking this has been done before and the information might be easily available. My local parts stores aren’t the most helpful or well stocked, so it’d be easier to simply ask for one for a specific model. Unfortunately the clear boot is NLA from BMW dealer, and the ones available are considerably more expensive than the prices you’re quoting, thus the desire to find a more cost effective alternative. I’ve got a concurrent WTB thread going to potentially swap in an evenly spaced 6 bolt CV since mine are drilled for it, but was hoping to just reuse what’s there without buying the more costly clear boot.
  5. The clear sliding joint boot on the DS of my '68 1600-2 is destroyed beyond recognition, and the new clear boots are out of my budget at the moment. Does anyone know what year/make/model replacement black rubber CV boots can be used? Do the ones from a later model 2002 fit? Also, once replaced with a regular CV boot do I just pack it with grease or do I need to use the gear oil if I go this route? Thanks! Alan
  6. Looking for a single or pair of half shafts in good condition. My '68 1600's clear "boot" has been shredded for some time and since the part is NLA and it's already drilled to accept the newer style, I might as well update it with the traditional CV setup. My PS one seems to be in decent shape so I could be okay with buying one side only. Located in SF Bay Area, CA Thanks! Alan
  7. Yup, Enkei Apache... I want to say it's also followed by a number like V, or IV? I've got a set of those in 13", and I know Esty used to (still does?) have them on her car as well. Alan
  8. Sorry to semi-hijack, but a quick question about the chrome loop. Where does it go? My 68 1600 with original Klippan belts does not have this loop. Thanks, Alan
  9. Sport seats from a 1991 318is available in SF Bay Area (Oakland, specifically). Purchased these a couple of months ago from fiftytakedowns here on the forum. Ended up scoring a set of aftermarket recaro's a few weeks later, so these ones have to go. Local p/u only, please. I paid $150 for them, so that's what I'd like to get for them. Thanks, Alan
  10. Hi Mike, I'm interested, but if you don't mind I'd like to see if anyone has a full set to part with (versus piecemeal), and local would be even better, saving me on shipping costs. Thanks! Alan
  11. Looking for the black plastic snap on seatbelt anchor covers that cover up the anchor and bolt for my 68 1600 at the mounting locations. Need 2 for my old, non retracting belts until I save up for some nice new belts. Until then, I'm tired of looking at the exposed hardware. Thanks, Alan
  12. Not sure what the proper terminology is, but looking for 2 or 3 of the metal covers that cover up the joint between the pieces of beltline trim for both the hood and trunk trim. Thanks, Alan
  13. Looking for the DS flush signal for my 68 1600 to replace a badly cracked one. Doesn't need to be pristine, but decent quality with uncracked plastic is needed. I'm in Oakland, CA. Thanks, Alan
  14. Looking for the stock sliders that will fit my 68 1600. Basically, I'm trying to mount some aftermarket, reclining recaros. Have the recaro seats, and then some recaro brackets, but need the actual sliders to bolt between the recaro brackets and the stock seat mounting locations. I need the earlier ones that have the turned down tab in front, both DS and PS. I'm in Oakland, so local would be preferred, but not required. Thanks! Alan
  15. Found your email on another post. Just send you an email with my number. Going to be in SF this morning and would love to swing by if possible. Gimme a call if you can. Thanks, Alan
  16. Picts? If they fit a 68 1600...I'll take 'em. I'm in Oakland. Alan
  17. Hi All, I've got a chance to pick up some clean, essentially free seats to replace the scary, trashed ones in my '68 1600. The "new" seats are currently installed in a 1988 535i. I did some research and it does not appear that the seats are stock. Looking at the center console, I see the seat adjustments, but I also see seat adjustments on the SIDE of the seat itself. I'm thinking these are from another car perhaps? They also do not match the rear seat upholstery. I have not seen these seats in person. Can anyone tell if they are actual recaro's (the center embroidery says recaro) or can tell me anything about them based on the photo? I know the rear passengers will have a tough time morphing in/out, but rear seat passengers aren't my primary concern! Fabbing new mounts/cutting off the original mounts shouldn't be a problem for me, either. Any and all info is appreciate! Thanks!
  18. If you don't have any takers, I'd love to take them off your hands and can arrange for a friend in Seattle to meet you to pick them up. Let me know! Thanks, Alan
  19. Happy Birthday Ludwig! Congrats Mike! My 68 turns 40 April 16, 2008....can't wait!
  20. Thanks for all the advice ,Guys....I'll have to dive into it this weekend and see what all needs to be replaced. Fingers crossed its the more simple fix of those recommended, but knowing my luck, it won't be.
  21. (Sorry to hijack, Tim) Awesome info...thanks Lorin...I'll try that this weekend! Sounds like it should work for you, too, Tim!
  22. Picked up some VW Corrado seats and a used Stahl header. Both will require a little work before I can use em. The seats are going to be a challenge to figure out how to mount, and the header needs a little welding. Hopefully I can swing by my buddy's house sometime soon and fix it. Also nabbed a Redline Weber air filter, the cast aluminum type. Looks like I'm gonna need to figure out a way to mount the elbow so I can run the line back from the valve cover. This engine bay is dirty enough that I don't need to add to it by venting under the hood! What's the next plan? Gotta get her back up and running by the end of the year (hopefully). This Christmas, I intend on: -Swapping front calipers -Add the tranny mount (it was never installed by P.O) -Rebuild the shift lever -Install side mirror -Fabricate battery tie down -New fluids and filters -Temporarily repair some of the seriously iffy wiring...I see bare wires! -Replace the worn out strut tower bearings -Replace suspect hoses -Replace air filter with Redline one, connect to valve cover Sounds like it's gonna be a busy week....Stay tuned! Comments, suggestions, and feedback appreciated!
  23. Met up with Jan down in San Jose....super nice guy! His cars are truly an inspiration, and it was good for the wife to see what a nice '02 actually looked like. Picked up a set of pretty beat up flares. I think it'll be a little while before I get to use those. Thanks again Jan! Got some new wheels for the car. She came with 205/50R15's on 15x7 Enkie 92's...a little big, offset is waay off. I know the "new" setup is still not ideal, but at least it fits without having to worry about chewing things up while I get her running and shake the bugs out:
