300 mile drive

I just purchased a 1972 or 73 tii which I plan to drive from cleveland to chicago. The vehicle has not run in 6 months, short of fresh gas, an oil and filter change along with fluid and hose inspections is there any thing in particular I should look for or worry about?

Seriously, your tires will prob. have flat spots which will vibrate thru the wheel. Check the pressure before you go. Take some euro fuses, stiff wire, jb weld and duct tape, which will fix most maladies. Check your lights and signals before leaving. The battery might not hold a charge if it is old, you might load test it before you go at an autozone. Fan belts are cheap insurance too.

Check to make sure you have your AAA card....I have the included 100 mile tow service, so I try to stay within a 100 mile radius of my house....when I'm driving the 02 of course..

Might also want to take a gal. of 50/50 coolant/water, a gal. of tap water (to pour on the radiator if you need to cool it enough to open), and a qt. or 2 of 20/50 oil.

A spare can of Brake Fluid may not be a bad idea either, as some of the rubber lines to the resevoir may have developed cracks and leaks.

A roll of electrical tape, sme spare wires, butt connetcors and a pair of wire crimpers would't be a terrible idea either. No telling what electrical horrors the PO inflicted on your car...

How much do you trust the seller? Or maybe you're already familiar with the car?

If I didn't know the condition of the injection (forget about the rest of the car for a moment), I'd take a carburator and intake manifold as backup. That way you won't get stranded - for too long...

What I needed enroute was an exhaust system, some 8 amp fuses and new fuel pump.

I had the fuses, anyway...

kudos to you Delia! Lol. When I bought my 76 02 last year i drove it over 6000km in 2 weeks. Needed nothing but a little oil.

No trailer needed.

8 weeks of Navy bootcamp taught me everything I need to know about space utilization. ALL that fits in two bags between the rear shock towers. There is still room for the cooler full of beer and clothes and such.
