  1. Hi everyone, The car has been sold and has gone to a great new home where it will be taken care of and given more attention than I could offer! I won't be around here for a long while, so I wanted to thank everyone that has offered me advice or sold me parts over the past 15 years. This is a great group of people and although I will REALLY miss my Inka, I will also miss checking out the site and hearing from everyone! Thank you! Brian previous owner of a '72 inka and a 74 auto!
  2. Year:: 1972 Make:: BMW Model:: 2002 Price:: 2,500 Location: : Phoenix, AZ *** SOLD *** After 11 years, I have decided to sell my '72 2002. Back in 2012 I had an issue with a stripped #1 spark plug thread and I removed the head for repair. After having the head repaired and a valve job, I never had a chance to reassemble it. Kids and job have kept it in my garage for the past 2 years and it is time to free up some space. I paid $2,500 back in 2004 and I am asking the same today. The Good: Many new or recently installed parts - Cylinder head was repaired with valve job - $700 receipt - New hardware/gaskets for cylinder head reinstall - New 320i radiator - New water pump, thermometer - New center resonator - New front calipers, pads, & rotors - Resurfaced flywheel - rebuilt shifter - Nice Bumpers, and front Grilles - Sunroof - Euro turn signals - New motor mounts - Replaced original 4 speed - Zender front/rear spoiler (off car and need repair) - Sport steering wheel - Ansa muffler - 32/36 Weber - Interior is in good condition - Extensive service documentation dating back to original purchase. The Bad: It is a midwest car. Originally from KC. There is rust and a dent on the drivers side rear part of the roof. Paint is scuffed and needs work. Tires are tired. As the cylinder head is not installed, it does not run. Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for the look! 3. I don't know if this is the appropriate thread location, as the forum has changed a lot since I used to be active. I apologize in advance if I am out of place by posting here... I also know there are many of the “I’m thinking about selling threads” done over the years, but I wanted my turn at one. I have made up my mind to sell my ’72 inka. I have owned it since 2004, and now with two kids and a very time intensive job, I need to part ways with the hobby that has occupied a space in my garage for so many years. Right now it has not been running for two years. I had a spark plug hole stripped on the head, and after a removal and a $700 cylinder head repair (not including the cost of spares) , it still sits unassembled. My question to you, is whether there is any value in a non-op 72 2002? There are a lot of good parts on the car and a LOT of new parts waiting to be put on it, but the body has seen better days. It ran great up until I overtightened the #1 spark plug two years ago. I bought it in 2004, and have put a LOT of time and money into it since then. Would it be out of the question to ask $2,500 - $3,000 non-operating, or will I be forced to put it back together and then ask for that amount? Is that realistic, or is it worth less? I don’t want to exactly give it away, but parting it out isn’t a great option either. Has anyone faced a similar situation? I haven’t been on the board in quite a long while so I wanted to get your thoughts on current state of 2002 values and enthusiasm for these cars. I don’t have the time, or fortitude to work on the car during a Phoenix Summer, so I decided to turn here for advice on my next steps in moving on. Thank you in advance! - Brian '72 inka
  4. Some states have laws that require an insurance company to declare a vehicle a total loss if the repairs exceed a percentage of the calculated value. The adjusters arms are tied. Ask the adjuster why the vehicle is coming up as a total loss... Is the repair replace calculation their own, or state mandated?... Also, ask the adjuster what they figure the salvage value is. They will have already calculated this...The key is to argue the the value is just high enough to justify the repair.. Brian 72 inka Auto adjuster in a long ago former life
  5. Hi Everyone, It's been quite a while since I've posted here. My '02 has been out of service since December of 2011. I had a problem with two striped spark plug holes, and nearly two years later and a lot of money spent on parts I need to get this car reassembled so I can use my garage again. I ended up having my original head completely redone after the machine shop found it to be cracked and warped. It looks great, but that was a year ago. I've delayed reassembly due to several issues, my lack of confidence in correctly reassembling it being the primary reason. I want to know how you get the pistons on the block back to TDC on the first cylinder as well as making sure the head is also similarly calibrated. During the tear down the timing chain slipped, and I am not sure the #1 piston was at TDC when I took everything apart. Can anyone who has done this before offer some pointers? Anything else I should do for an engine that has been sitting for almost two year without the head??? I would really appreciate it! Also, when I parked it, there was gas in the tank and lines. No stabilizer added. Any advice on how to deal with this issue? I was thinking of replacing the fuel line, as I have no idea how old it really is. How about the gas in the tank? there was less than 1/8th when I parked her... I appreciate any advice, you can spare! Thanks, Brian 72 inka in Phoenix

  7. Hello, I am still looking to pickup a 121 Cylinder head for my '72. So far all other options have not worked out in some way or the other. Does anyone have a spare sitting around they would be willing to part with? Ideally, I'd like to find one of known condition that still has some life left in it. Unless you are in town, I would need it shipped to Phoenix, 85050. Please Help! Brian 72 inka brian (DOT) john (DOT) muldoon@gmail.com
  8. Yep! I think there a a number of us in Phoenix. Brian 72 inka
  9. Hi Everyone I've been putzing around with my cylinder head issue since December. The other day I took it in to be rebuilt thinking it was in decent condition... I was wrong!!! ... several burnt valves, 4 spark plug holes buggered up, 2 cracks, and a few more things I could keep track of. No wonder I could never get it to run right. It's going to cost $700 to repair. Does anyone have a decent spare sitting around they are willing to sell that I can have rebuilt? I would prefer one with all the valves/springs/rockers. Please let me know if you have one and are willing to ship to Phoenix, 85050. Thanks, Brian 72 Inka brian (DOT) john (DOT) muldoon@gmail.com
  10. Hi 2002Man, Do you have any info on the springs? Brand, age, miles, lowered, etc? Email me offline. brian(dot)john(dot)muldoon(at)gmail.com Thanks!
  11. Are you selling just the rack, or are the springs available too? Brian 72 inka
  12. Hi, I pulled the cylinder head the over the weekend to send it to the machine shop. However, I'm having trouble getting three of the head bolts out of the head. Several of bolts around the 2nd cylinder are nearly cemented with years of oil and who knows what else. The sludge on one of the last bolts to finally come out was hard dry and lighter brown color. The bolts turn, but will not come out. I've used, wd40, pbblaster, brake cleaner, and CLR. I've also used a small socket and a hammer to try to knock them out from the bottom of the head. They just won't budge. Does anyone have any words of wisdom? Thanks Brian 72 inka
  13. So do you guys recommend trying the helicoil with the head on? I assume I should remove the exhaust manifold to give me room to work. Also, I did some poking around this am. The spark plug shot out of the cylinder, bounced off the stock manifold cover, and right into the washer bottle breaking it. Good times!
  14. Earlier this week I embarked on a project to tune my 02 up for the winter months. I can only drive my 02 (no A/C) in the fall/winter/spring months here in Phoenix. So I chased the plug holes, replaced the plugs, reset the timing, and was preparing to go out for a short drive before I dialed in the carb... I was in the garage looking under the hood and playing with my 32/36. I have it a little gas, and there was a really loud metal on metal 'POP' then she died. It turns out that the first cylinder 'rejected' the spark plug and flung it onto the floor of the garage... Because the engine was warm I gingerly tried putting the plug back in but it never would tighten up in the hole. I was able to use my fingers to wiggle the plug out of the hole. I am going to wait until it cools down and really get in there to see what's going on, but I think the hole is really buggered up! I just can't win. Look forward to more questions from me about removing/reinstalling the head in the near future. Peace, Brian 72 inka
  15. I've got a petronix, and the valves have been successfully adjusted before. Only three of the eight really needed adjustment. Prior to my meddling, there was a small amount of valve chatter, which is one of the reasons I opted to play around with it today. No more chatter, just a rough running engine at idle. Under load at 2k RPM's it has never run smoother now... Except when at idle (900-1K) is it rough, and there is a small amount of smoke coming from the valve cover exhaust 'sock'
  16. Today I decided I wanted to make my 02 run a little better, and in the process, did the exact opposite. I removed my spark plugs to check them, and the threads on the #1 cylinder were so gummed up it took significant force to remove the spark plug. So, I decided to chase the threads and replace the WR7DC plugs (I pulled a lot of crud and metal shavings out from all 4 spark plug holes). The store did not have the W8DC's recommended here, so I went with the NGK's others have mentioned. I noticed that the WR7DC's were gapped to .03+ so I gapped the new plugs at .027. Before I started her up I also adjusted the valves while cold. It ran like crap, and I could barely keep it from stalling at idle... (For reference, I have a newish blue coil, and the Bavauto High Perf wires.) I ran out of time for today, but my plan for tomorrow was to reset the ignition timing, and re-dial in the 32/36. Two Questions. 1) Could there be any compatibility issues with the plug wires? I now see Bavauto's website saying I could use the plugs with the WR7DC's. 2) Is there anything else I'm overlooking? I wanted to check before I started playing with the timing and the carb. Thanks-in-advance! Brian
  17. Boo! Last night's pumpkin carving bbq.

  19. I tried the same method as well... It kinda worked on an intake manifold with light soiling... however, the soda went really fast and it didn't touch the caked on grime... I tried it once, not again Brian 72 inka
  20. Back in 2005 I joined the Blockbuster home movie delivery service. There was a History of BMW movie, so I put it on my Queue. It initially said there would be a 'Very Long Wait'. Well about 5 years later it arrived. Excited, I opened up a special bottle of Stone 14th Ann 'Emperial' IPA, and prepared to celebrate...celebrate my patience and my 2002... And WOW, only about 27 seconds out of a 1 hour program devoted to the 2002..... Talk about a let down...the movie, NOT the Brew... On/Off lurking for years now, Brian 72 inka
  21. Awesome! Really very nice! Is the rest of the car sticking out on the other side? Brian 72 Inka
  22. Well, the pads are relatively new (3 months) I've taken the pads out several times trying to diagnose the noise and found nothing caught. The brake fluid is dark and low, and I'm planning on flushing it VERY soon. ALso, I noted that the dust boots on the calipers are torn...I'm planning on changing those too. Could the torn dust boots be the issue?? Thanks B
  23. Hello all, I have a 01 Honda Civic. It has developed a nasty noise coming from the front suspension. I can't quite put my finger on the cause. Listen/watch the video I took moving a slow speed in my parking garage at work. There is a sqeaking sound that occurs both when the wheel is turning, and when I go over a bump... I have been told the struts leak a little, but would this be the cause. I've jacked up the car, the wheels seem 'tight' with no up/down or side to side play. The cv boots and tie rod end boots are not torn. Any thoughts??? Thanks, Brian 72 inka and a crappy 01 honda civic
