what is this bar on top of the bumper? (nt)

...they're Amco bars, as some people have posted. No real function, though my dad said he put them on when the car was nearly new as sacrifical lambs to maybe keep the bodywork from suffering if someone tapped him.

I like 'em, because they're period correct and you don't see them often. Though I agree that I prefer the rear to the front--the front cuts off the bottom of the kidneys and makes it almost impossible to mount fog/driving lights above the bumper (it would be too flexible to mount lights on it).

Amco aftermarket bumper overrider bar.

For extra protection from those urban dwellers who "park by ear..."

...in their Ford Country Squire or Willys Overland.

In the past few years, I've had a few of these things, but can't bear to add it to my car.

Dave Hoovler's Colorado has a set that's been on his car since way-back-when.

Bill's Picachu has a rear bar only.

Amco was a California company...now long gone. You could buy their stuff mail order from Vilem B. Hahn or MG Mitten. I run an Amco shift knob on my '73tii.

rear Bumper Bar>>

Made by AMCO import car accessory

company. Also supplied by M.G. Mitten,

and V. HAAN. Great catalog companies of the

'60's & '70s.

Good place to hunt for them is

the approaching Import Car at Carlisle, PA.

FYI:

"Vilem B. Haan was country's top foreign-car mail order operation in the 60s and 70s, providing high-quality aftermarket gear that we see all around us today.

Haan himself (he died a few years ago) was the first president of the Ferrari Owners Club and held membership card number 1."

P.S. I apologize for mispelling of Mr. Haan's name in my previous post.
