Ideas to memorialize Recaro Seat Roundel

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The seats I'm restoring and using in my tii are original 1977 recaros from a 320i.  They have the original Roundel on the sides, but the rest of the vinyl is trashed.  I want to find a fun way to keep and use the Roundel somewhere and am looking to the creative group here to help with ideas.

So far my only idea is to make an old school leather style key fob, using the surrounding vinyl and the Roundel instead of leather.  My only challenge there is the vinyl is quite thin and I'm not sure it will look right.

Any other ideas?

Cut it out of the vinyl larger than needed then sew it into your “new” vinyl or leather panel in the same location. Kinda like a patch.  Obviously done by a good seamstress.

I was trying to figure it a way to do that, but alas, my seats are now beige to match the rest of the interior.

If you can trim the roundel down to the white outer rim (so no black vinyl shows) you can glue it to the seat with a flexible glue like contact cement or S6000.  If it comes off, the glue can be removed with your fingernail and no damage to the seat vinyl.

Wrap a shift knob.

Make a horn button.

Create a key fob (wrap it around  a button/washer)

Make a patch to sew on your leather jacket.

Hang it from your rear view mirror.

Turn it into a strap/belt.

All good suggestions but the original key fob still the best. Just make the best design you can figure out. Try to hide the edges of vinyl fabric. 👍
