No more Pilkington windshields......

Recommended Posts

Well, I spoke too soon!  I just received an email that my order has been cancelled.  No parts left.  I might now be interested in a good used part @Carlos_M for my 73 Tii.  The WS I have is badly broken.

Seriously, try Windshields to go. They source directly from Pilkington warehouses, PDX may be tapped out but Pilkington has 2 or 3   warehouses in Washington.  Fill out the form, give the Zip for Tacoma and submit, someone will call you. If Tacoma is a bust ask them about other locations, possible shipping.

Pilkington does not sell to the public per se, have to be a shop, ect so dont waste your time trying to call them directly.  They will just blow you off.

Mac, the OP scored a windshield in his locale from Windshields to go, picked it up at his local Pilkington warehouse. He's pretty stoked😉

If it's just a cosmetically desirable thing, can't you just get a FUYAO glass, and have some stickers made to have the original logo put on?  I'm sure the FUYAO logo can probably be removed by some delicate hands.

Fuyao makes great glass, they’re a BMW OE supplier, and have US centers — no need to hide or remove the bug

Late Pilkington FW227s carry DOT177, meaning they were manufactured by L-N Safety Glass SA de CV in Mexicali, another NSG subsidiary.

For authenticity for the white glove types you’d want original SIGLA and VEGLA glass bugs on your 02…

Thanks Tech71! For the windshields-to-go recommendation. A very attractive price, as well. My windshield should be local by 9 May. The salesperson was very helpful with installation tips as well: ) She used to be an installer.

Another data point... I ordered from Windshields To Go this week in Los Angeles. They didn't have Pilkington, only Fuyao. I drove 40 minutes to the warehouse to pick it up and it had an obvious , large flaw in the glass. They didn't have another one in the warehouse so I will be making the drive again early next week. $285 picked up.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
