Driveshaft Center bearing noisy

A thought based on "trans hitting the tunnel."

How about the rear transmission mount, is it allowing "flopping around" of the back of the transmission ??  Is it nice and tight ??

Some reading about the E21 transmission mount .....

Cheers,

No need to change csb and driveshaft if in good condition.

just have to cut the driveshaft on transmission side

cutting and shortening a driveshaft is a significant "change"......and a potential source of vibration.

True-

a long time ago, when I had major (self- inflicted) driveshaft vibration problems,

a small camera and a recording card for my little netbook (remember those?)

showed me a bent output flange, an off- center weld, a bent flange ear,

AND a loose pinion bearing.

That wasn't fun.

Nor cheap.

nor inspiring...

but I'll bet yours is easier than mine was.

Was that shiny spot on your driveshaft there before? Something clearly is or was rubbing there.

My 5 speed conversion used a 320i shift platform and tunnel mounted rear platform support.

The rubber bit sticking down from it would contact the driveshaft on decelerations and spirited shifting until I trimmed some off. Made an interesting squealing kind  of noise .

Granted, your set up is different but how much clearance is there between the DS and that shiny, new aftermarket shift rod I spy up there?

Zoom in on the fwd flange, those welds and damaged flange are concerning

Well a few things pop out in your pictures, one thing you clutch slave is upside down, second what is that wire tied to the shift rod ? third in the picture the exhaust flange seems to be too close to the rear trans support a common problem with the IE mount, Hope this helps.
