The strap is just there for installation, it squeezes the guibo so all the bolt holes line-up...once the bolts are in remove the strap.

The strap comes off.

Ahem.... Ya... it was in bad shape.   I can't believe it got that bad so fast.  It has maybe 10K miles on it.   German one went in.  Thanks to  Kristen Showers at Brian Jessel BMW.  I called them, they didn't have one in the country.  Then 5 min later she called me back and said she could get one from a reseller for me. Totally saved my bacon since I accidently ordered the wrong one from IE.   Great service,  things like that get me thinking of a BMW for our new car in 2022.   

 

Next step is getting the diff redone.  I have the kit.  Just need to take the car off the road to get it fixed up.

Holy crap. I thought mine was bad...[emoji44] the loose bolts tore up the flange ears and areas next to the flange. I'm working on to replace my driveline, output flange and put new bushing.7054f081d831fadacb4b07fd30ebbd74.jpg

Expecting the joint to flex some 6000 times a minute (once on the push, once on the pull) is asking too much with a driveline not straight.

A radiator shop is a good place to take a leak.

 

I have no idea what I'm doing but I know I'm really good at it.

How do you ensure that your Driveline is strait?  My eyeball meter says it is ok.   The spacing for the guibo was perfect.  Like thickness of a playing card close. Center support bearing is great.  Perhaps getting on it too hard, too often?

 

Just thinking out loud.

Assemble the driveline w/o the guibo.  Pick an ear on the trans and one on the driveshaft flange.  Check the gap, rotate both 90deg and recheck gap between same two ears..  Repeat for the next 90 deg and so forth.  Position trans/center bearing so gaps are even at all 4 locations.  No breaks since the 245 was installed in 2003, using both the M10 and S14.  Joint is for torque pulsations, not angular misalignment.  Shop manual assumes no sags, mods, etc and is not applicable.

The gaps were dead on.  I mean I was shocked, I thought I may have to man handle it, but it slipped in like a charm, no prying no fuss no muss.   I slipped in every bolt by hand. 

 

I will keep an eye on it.

Funny, I know her and her husband well.  I've only bought parts from Jessel a couple of times though, because another friend and longtime FAQer was the parts guy at AutoWest.
