Derby's 6 volt generator needs some help!

Recommended Posts

Hello NK people!

I'm hoping by posting here someone can help me locate a generator and voltage regulator for Derby's 6volt... ?

It appears that before I have someone rebuilt Derby's, if someone has a spare to buy or use in the meantime?

Or if anyone in the Bay Area knows where I can get mine rebuilt, I would be so grateful! I'm looking for as many suggestions as possible...

My Derby 1600 is an early 1967 6volt car...

Thank you!

I believe you can use the voltage regulator from a 66 or earlier Beetle. Maybe the internals of the VW generator or a Porsche generator can be used. Tom Jones and Mike Self might respond.

Check with Connor at Vintage Autobahn.  He just acquired a large collection of NOS parts and I think there was a new 6 volt generator in one of the boxes.  Also, I got one a while back from Double 02 Salvage in Hayward.

Hi Lisa,

I had my '67s generator rebuilt at a generic auto electric place in Campbell, on Winchester I think.  It's been like 12 years so I don't recall the shop's name and sold the car in 2015 with all my reciepts.  From what I recall there were no special parts needed, he just had to determine the right bearing size and coil winding once disassembled, and it worked great for years for me.  Any electric rebuild shop should be able to do it for you especially if they hadle other makes of old car rebuilds, search for alternator repairs locally. Just be sure to stress that its 6V and may have different gauge wiring inside than 12V.  The regulator is external, no worry there.  If you need a new NOS Bosch 6V regulator I still have one to sell I think.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
