1973 BMW 2002 - with collision damage (see photos)

Vehicle had been partially restored prior to collision:

5 speed manual transmission from 320i
Weber 32/36 progressive carburetor with ported manifold
Tii headers and Ansa full-flow exhaust
Tii centrifugal advance distributor
22mm front sway bar w/polyurethane bushings
22 mm rear sway bar w/ polyurethane bushings
Complete new brake job with new front rotors & pads
Momo racing steering wheel

The car is drivable and currently registered (10/18). Known issues: steering box has a lot of play, there is some rust: (pedal box, base of left rear roof pillar, spot near sunroof). The rockers and shock towers are rust free. The interior is complete and in good shape.

$5K seems fair to the seller, but from a buyers point of view, a better, more correct, undamaged car can be had for likely less money and effort than it will take to fix this one. It's already been involved in a front-end wreck prior and the now replaced nose is tweaked again. Sadly this might end up as parts car.

I'm almost tempted to buy it and fix it.

Lots of '74-'76 parts on the car and I'm OK with that, even OK with the bottle cap wheels.

Really want this to be saved!

My friend is looking to build a VARA Racer and this seems like a great start, no?

I sent you a PM .. here’s the short version (from a guy in Southern California who’s build many of the 2002’s now running with VARA). See https://www.facebook.com/vintagebmwracing/

- Based on photos, I don’t believe that light damage would cause any issues

- the ‘completeness’ of that car is likely more than you need (but you could sell-off interior, etc, etc)

* a sunroof model isn’t ideal; the internal structure reduces available headroom (cutting it out / sealing up roof panel requires extra work)

If your friend would like to contact me, they’re welcome to (I included my contact info on PM). I may have a more suitable shell for a race car build, if this one doesn’t work. -KB

BUYER BEWARE! This is two cars welded together. I was considering buying it, posted it to my FB page, heeded the warning and left it.

Mechanic, Bill Arnold, "I saw this car back in 2013...as soon as I saw the body condition I took it off my lift and said NO WAY...He kept trying to get me to work on it for years. It is a front half and a back half welded together...not particularly well."
