  1. Trunk lid emblem and front grill suggest a '74 transplant
  2. Well Sander08... what say you ?? You've been looking for over a year..... they don't get much better than this at this price.... ????????
  3. hey Rob, I highly recommend Mike McCartney's book 'BMW '02 Restoration Guide'. Even though you won't be doing a restoration, as I didn't, it arms you with correct info. https://www.amazon.com/BMW-Restoration-Guide-R-M-Clarke/dp/1855204517 cheers, George
  4. "Looking at the front of the car is obvious that the upper body panel above the grill has no seams which means it has been filled in with bondo ( fiberglass). That is why you are seeing cracks in the paint in the picture with the key." ...hey Rob, not sure your friend is correct on this if he means the small vertical seams that would be next to the key in the photo on BaT and shows a small vertical crack. These seams were filled at the factory with lead soldering, I believe, and my pristine '73 does not show any seam, nor will ANY original factory car. ...George
  5. Rob... FWIW... I thought the Chamonix '02 auto on Bat was a better car than the auction price got to. Reserve was probably around 10k. It had issues sure, but not as many as the Craigslist jokers asking big $$ for molested cars with obvious rust that are beyond economical saviour. I look at how original a car is, and that Chamonix looked like a car at the point of waiting to be saved by a caring owner. But I've been wrong before. Just sayin'... George
  6. Poor thing... just because you don't like brown (siennnabraun) doesn't mean you have to get nasty with it. She once looked like this........
  7. I don't know about you guys, BUT.... I think a lot more of my wife than to allow her to drive a $5k beater. Especially an old '02. That CL one is a joke..."car runs and drives fine has a little surface rust but nothing major" ...well I'm sorry but when the rust is showing BIG TIME under the windows, you have big structural problems too. Pay 10k (maybe more) for the Chamonix one on BaT and then two things will happen that will improve your life... 1. Your wife knows you love her... 2. You won't have to pony up a thou per month to keep it on the road. Been there, done that, too old to repeat the same mistake twice. cheers, George
  8. FWIW.... my '73 has a water choked Weber 32/36 and stock air cleaner and needs at least ten pumps of the accelerator pedal after sitting a week. Run it every day and just one will do it. ...George
  9. We test drove a new BMW X1 the same day as an Audi Q3 for my wife's car. AUDI Q3 NOW SITS IN OUR DRIVE. Way better car for the money. Easier to steer and park. Electric up and down tailgate for grocery loading, leather seats, etc., etc. Sorry BMW lost this one. ...FWIW, George
  10. There is really no such thing as 'an exhaust upgrade' for these cars, because the stock system has always been best for longevity, efficiency and sound. Free flow does not make you go faster, longer. It just makes a beautiful driving experience into a session on the race track. 'Conserv' said it best..."If you know your taste in exhaust note and noise level is identical to the person who recommended the Ansa, great, get that one."
  11. Agave was not my favorite color, until I found the best '02 on the continent at the time I was looking, that happened to be Agave. So over my few yrs of ownership, I have grown to like it. My first 02 was Granada, in '69. Which I also liked. But that was 48 years ago, and I now appreciate the more subtle color combo's. Green (Agave or BRG) and tan looks good in almost any car, especially LBC's. One thing I notice when I am out exercising the Agave... there are virtually NO cars that color anymore. At shows, people always comment on the appeal of the color combination. AND it makes good paintwork REALLY stand out. It grows on ya !!
  12. I didn't see another '02 there this year... so yeh, mark your calendars. If the weather cooperates it's a good way to blow the cobwebs off the old car :-)
  13. We went on the annual Turkey Run to Squamish,BC. Our Canadian Thanksgiving Day. 150+ old cars of all makes, the green '53 Ford was a show stopper, complete with turkey mascot, Took the Gondola up top for coffee and a walk. Great day. Longest run in years for the Agave '02. Five speed conversion makes it a different car to old 4 sp. version.
  14. WOW !!! and the ad says it's a front wheel drive....... Now that must have taken some wrenching :-)
  15. "The budget is around 9 - there's one I'm about to pick up and it has good compression, no rust, everything is in good shape" Having scoured the continent a few years ago for the BEST 02 I could find , I never found one under 20 grand that did not have rust. Look harder, You'll find it. There is no such thing as the tooth fairy guys. Pay now or pay later !! George
  16. I'll take one of these.... but does anyone know which is era correct for a '73 ? (sorry, I'm a bit anal about that) I think it's the grey one as I had one that color in my '69. Also the spark plug wrench diameter seems smaller in the brown one ???????? ...thx, George
  17. This is what I believe the era correct to be as I have installed now. Better storage for 'stuff'... thx, George
  18. I have removed this console/radio/speaker combo and replaced with an era correct stock item, no radio, so this unit is up for grabs. Complete with (working) Kenwood radio, 2 speakers, leather shift boot (not the rubber one shown), and hazard flasher. No shift knob. $175 plus shipping OBO.
  19. Took my '73 to a local BMW club meet in North Vancouver, BC, for the first time, Sunday, and got a nice surprise. Not many in the Heritage division, but she was the oldest car there, so it was good to get the recognition of many years of owners caring for this car. Wondering now if this helps the re-sale value... just kidding ... she drives too nice now after the 5 spd conversion. George
  20. Just for safe measure I use small stick on foam in the areas of possible contact. Hood is perfectly aligned so I am not about to fool with that adjustment. George
  21. hi Guys, Sorry for the delay but life got in the way of playing with my toys and I wanted to confirm my shock tower dimensions with Rick at RS Restorations here in Vancouver BC. Rick did the 5 spd transplant on my Agave '02 and wrenched at the dealership when I drove my first '02 off the showroom floor in 1969. He is the local guru on '02's and has two in his shop now that measure exactly the same as mine between the tower bases at the trunk floor.... 29 inches +/- 1/8 inch. Mine, as the attached image shows, measures 29-1/8 inches. (Add 2 inches for the body of the tape measure) So there has been no 'tubing' of this car .... (phew !! ...you guys had me worried for a while there that my due diligence on this car was not up to par) So these are too tight a fit for my liking as it has scrapped the paint on the tower and the evaporation box will not go back in when it is in place. So, Alberto, who's next on the list that wants one of these. cheers, George
  22. OK, I've been on the phone with Alberto and he suggested I post here with my problem... My trunk bin will not fit my 1973 '02. I removed the evaporator tank but still the unit is too wide at the base and the only way I can see to make it fit is grind off some of the excess fiberglas at the outside edges. Being a boat owner as well I am very familiar with working with f'glass so this doesn't bother me in the least. Attached here is a pic of my trunk to show it is basically a pristine example with no extra sheet metal welded to the inside edges. The car shows no signs of ever been in an accident serious enough the lessen the distance between the shock towers. Nobody else has had this problem, so why is my car different ? Any ideas....? .... or there may be another bin on the market, as I got the last one.
  23. Alberto, I'll take one. Ship to Washington state. PM sent cheers, George
  24. ...BTW that's in Canuck Bucks, so about U$ 750 G
