So the CS injector is still plumbed. Check it for leaks. What's the fuel pressure on the 3 series pump? Where's the timing set?

 Yes, there is a hose at the bottom of the WUR which runs up the side of the block to the bottom of the plenum...difficult to see.

In a pan of hot water the 'piston' should extend outwards about 10-15mm

 

i don't know about lubrication...i guess yes, but no solid info

I didn't lube mine, but I definitely cleaned it up so it would slide smoothly.  And I made the initial adjustment off the car, just out of the pan of boiling water (up here we can barely get water to boil- so you do what you can...)

 

(You make a tool to unscrew the cap with the 2 pin holes to disassemble the WUR...  I put a little anti-seize on the threads to help it turn while under spring pressure for reassembly.)
