Front Strut Spacers

Rocky Mountain Resto-Mod

Those are pretty much worthless, no demand. Every US spec 2002 came with them and most have been removed and discarded.

I'm curious about these.... I cannot remember my original 1969 Euro 2002 having these, and my recently purchased 1973 doesn't either. Were they just added under the fenders at some point to raise the ride height for the US regs ?? In my recent search for the most original '02 I could find, I noticed some cars had these installed on top of the front shock tower in the engine bay.

Correct, they were on US spec cars to raise the headlights to the "proper" height.

You'll see them inside the engine bay and that's because those folks took them out to lower the nose 1/2" and figured they should put them on the inside of the engine bay for added support. However, it is my opinion that you don't need to do that....

And I spoke to one owner who placed them on top of the upper strut mounts so the long-a** bolts wouldn't be so noticeable!

Regardless, I am heartened, my spirits buoyed, to hear that mine are not the only cars with spacers still in place!

I have these also. Have the struts out for new cartridges. So I do not need the spacers? Thanks guys

If you want your car to:

1.) meet the U.S. D.O.T. bumper-height requirements for its model year; or

2.) correctly represent a U.S.-spec car of its model year,

then....you ABSOLUTELY NEED the spacers.

Otherwise, no, not at all.

Regards,

Steve

These "spacers" were used, not only on US cars, but also the rest of he World (my UK RHD Touring for example).

There were (at least) two sizes.

Parts 31 33 1 106 059 and 31 33 1 113 721.

If you look up those numbers you will find they were also used on the E3 and E9 models.
