The body is designed to let water flow through it at certain points. The trick is make sure that these are the only points that see water (since it won't flow through elsewhere), make sure that they have good paint coverage and clean them out occasionally to make sure the water continues to flow and not puddle or soak into mud and debris. 

 

It's never a perfect process but if you do that to a higher standard than someone who daily drive one back in the day, this should be all the maintenance you need.
