Contemplating Selling. Reco's On Selling Tools And/or Places?

Grover

After almost 10 great years, I am considering selling my '73 2002. My mind still isn't fully made up yet, honestly I thought I'd keep the car until I was lowered into my grave. However, priorities and times change, and sometimes this creates a shift in thinking. Time will tell...

So, since my car is pretty far from stock, I'm curious to know what tools folks have used successfully to help set an appropriate selling price. I've been perusing the completed listings on Ebay, checking Craigslist a bit, and also looked at the Hagerty pricing tool, although the latter isn't very helpful with a modified car.

Also, I'm curious to hear where people have had good success selling their car. Craigslist doesn't really interest me, and I'm a bit nervous of an auction format on Ebay also. Obviously it would get posted here on the FAQ, but would like to hear where else have done well for people (I'm in the San Francisco area.)

Thanks in advance.

Grover,  I believe you are in the "classic" bind - to sell or not to sell. Drive it to an event and put a for sale sign on the window but I'm sure people will ask how much you want for it.  How about posting pics/details here so we can see it and maybe your mods will be exactly what someone here is looking for and they may make you an offer.  Keep in mind that the basic rule of buying anything is to ask the seller for the price.  TR

'71 MGB - sold   '74 2002 - sold

'89 XR4Ti - sold  '94 Miata R Package - sold

'73 tii - restoration project - sold

I think the quality of your car would justify a nice Bring A Trailer feature. It would also help bring real offers over tire kickers...

Granted, I've never bought or sold on BAT, just drooled!

Walter: You want a toe? I can get you a toe, believe me. There are ways, Dude. You don't wanna know about it, believe me. I'll get you a toe by this afternoon--with nail polish...

usually the more modified your car is the less money people are willing to pay the most recent example is that m20 conversion 2002 FS on ebay this guy is crazy he wants USD$ 45,000 it probably is an awesome car but $45,000 come on? http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-2002-TURBO-6-1974-bmw-2002-m-20-turbo-6-by-manofied-racing-/321396767535?forcerrptr=true&hash=item4ad4bd7b2f&item=321396767535&pt=US_Cars_Trucks

I don't have a build thread on here, no. Attached are a couple of photos to at least give an idea of what I've got but will stop short of a full description as I'm still not sure if I want to go through with it at all. BAT is certainly a place which has come to mind, but I think they are pretty picky about their exclusive features and I'm not sure if a 2002 will cut the mustard, so to speak.

Thanks for the input guys. To be clear, I'm not requesting value estimates, rather tools to help me assign a good value and good places to list.

Never seen to 2002 search site, thanks for that!!

ArdenK: The air box was produced by Lee Vuong of Massive Brakes some years back. I believe he only made a dozen or so of them and that was it. I was lucky enough to pick one up from a fellow FAQer a couple of years back. The ITB's are 45mm TWM units. 45's are on the large side for a 2002, but since my car has the bottom end from an E30 M3 it has a slightly higher displacement (2.3L) so figured the extra size might be fun. I haven't been disappointed with them.
