Emission illustration sticker for my 76

sclaverie

Recommended Posts

So, as I continue to restore my car, I am looking for a sticker that illustrates the emissions configuration of the car. It is a 49 state car with no ERG. Unfortunately the link (see below) is of poor quality so I can make out what is says. But if anyone can share a picture of theirs in good quality, I would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks!

I'm in the same boat, and need -- among other late-car-specific stickers -- the 49-state emissions schematic. If you come up with a good duplicate, I'd be happy to help underwrite any costs associated with it.

Here's what I have (the Sienabraun car photo is courtesy of Jim Gerock).

Steve

Check w/ Carl Nelson @ La Jolla Independent (www.bimmerdoc.com). He has most, if not all, reproduction underhood stickers. 800/466-8184

Thanks, Bob, but neither Carl nor anyone has some of these late stickers. And because most of these are U.S.-only stickers, non of the European or U.K. suppliers are even in the equation.

Steve

There is a company that advertises in Hemmings Sports & Exotic magazine that sells reproduction labels/graphics for vintage Mercedes Benz vehicles. I'm thinking of contacting them for some advice on our emissions, tire pressure and other NLA stickers.

If there is a good, high quality scan available, you might make your own at Makeyourownstickers.com (something like that).

I believe these diagrams are also printed in the BMW Owner's manual USA supplement booklets.

Great! If you don't contact the Hemmings lead, please let me know and I'd be happy to follow up with them. I'll look at the make your own site.

And, yes, the emissions schematics in the owner's manual supplement are very similar but lack the borders and "key" (and show too much detail on the valve cover). I'm confident this would not be an impediment to someone more versed with technology, but I am not that person!

Thanks and regards,

Steve

Jim,

That guy has a less-than-illustrious reputation with sticker duplication and quality as well as unhappy customers on the mye28.com forum. Proceed with caution!

So there is another sticker that goes along with this one and that is located in the passenger vent area under the hood. click on URL below.

I can recreate this one and photoshop the illustration above and get a good image ready for a printer. Looking on line, there are a few vinyl printing companies who for a reasonable price will print several hundred. I think there could be a market if La Jolla or others distributes them.

Comments/thoughts?

This is another sticker I'm missing. I'm happy to pay a healthy share of printing costs. Internet may be the way to do this. I approached a couple local printing/graphics firms a year ago about a project to reproduce seven '76 stickers not otherwise reproduced (at all or closely) but neither firm had any appetite for it without legal releases from BMW and the EPA.

(The white-on-blue brake fluid sticker shown in Jim's last post [on this thread] is yet another of these missing stickers.)

Wow - thanks for the info John. He and I e-mailed a few times last night. He admitted to only having 6-series stickers but steered me to Carl Nelson as the 2002 sticker source.

Jaymic's website does show the USA emissions (written version only) decal but not the diagram (there are 15 pages of decals on their site).

Walloth & Nesch may also have a good selection of stickers.

Jaymic's website does show the USA emissions (written version only)...

Yes, but...the U.S. emissions sticker they have is for a '73 tii (unless I've missed other U.S. emissions stickers on their site). Someone else -- I believe it was La Jolla Independent -- has a '74 tii emissions sticker, and yet others seem to have some early emissions stickers. But no one has the '76 (or even a '74 or '75 non-tii) sticker.

Now most of "this issue" is actually "my issue": it's unlikely that even 1 in 100 people looking under my hood is going to actually read my stickers -- and declare my car in-authentic. But before I settle for a '74 tii emissions sticker, I'd really like to see if I can't obtain something closer to the original.

And this thread (it's not even my thread) has already given me some paths to pursue, so I appreciate all that's been said and done already!

Regards,

Steve

Does anyone know a source for the "DOT 3" sticker? I'm in need of one for my E3. I have a graphic artist who can replicate the artwork but I need a tried and true vinyl sticker printer that someone has used in order to then reproduce it.

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
