How rare is this wheel?

Excuse the cellphone pics. This wheel was on my 73 when I picked it up. Unfortunately most of the poly flaked off when I removed the cover, but the wood is mostly smooth and has no cracks. I am thinking of getting another wheel, but would like some info on this one. Thanks.

Looks like a steering wheel from a 1600GT.

and is pretty rare in the US, as it was never offered on US cars. I've seen 'em on CS coupes and some of the fancier NK sedans.

Best way to refinish is to remove all the old varnish/poly coat from the wood, sand it so that the wood surface is smooth and fresh, then go down to Home Depot/Lowes and buy a can of spray Urethane boat varnish, high gloss. Mask off the spokes and give the wood a half-dozen thin coats, allowing it to dry and lightly sanding between coats. It'll look like new and last a long time.

If you're looking for the same factory wood rim wheel with horn pushes in the spokes like a stock 2002 wheel, I have one that's already refinished I'll swap with you.

cheers

The info on my car is... "The BMW 2002 US VIN 2590289 was manufactured on April 17th, 1973 and delivered on April 24th, 1973 to the German BMW AG branch in Schafbrücke near Saarbrücken. The original colour was Inka, paint code 022." It may be why this wheel was available to the original owner. Any idea of the fair value if I were sell? My car has other issues where the funds could be better spent. Thanks
