Why is there no interest in this 2002 on Ebay so far?

I like it. It's a good looking car, and seems to be in decent condition. If I were in a buying mood, I'd request a video of compression and leak down measurements being taken.

I like the racing stripe, but I believe that the historical reason for the racing stripe was to indicate the driver's side of the car, since British, Australian and Japanese racing cars tended to be right hand drive. So I think the stripe is on the wrong side of the car. Then again, I'm not sure I'd want a white stripe running down the bonnet, as it would tend to reflect the sun and reduce visibility for the driver.

Looks good. Good luck with your sale.

Mine is 2570460. Only 69 off of mine. Must have been imported together. If they could only speak.

i've got 2570440, they must have rolled down the line together. i've got a project blog on it. i'm currently working on the rear suspension at a snail's pace. hope to have it on the road this spring after 6 years in-op.

mine was issued on 2/4/71, one day older than yours. it's also chamonix. well, now it's a combination of chamonix, rustoleum primer and spraycan white and wimbledon white.

i bought it off a girl in berkeley about 7 years ago for $200, non-running. was gonna use it for parts but reconsidered when i delved further into it. it was once owned by Davin from this board.

i believe it was originally delivered in Germany for American export. i'm guessing the original owner drove it in europe before shipping it here. typically they state it was delivered to Hoffman Motors, but this one was delivered to a german car dealer first.

i have a 73tii shell that was delivered to Italy before coming to the states, too. it's a basket case currently.

So the post was not so dumb after all. At least we were able to have a little reunion.

This car seems to have everything I would like including a 5 speed and the ii motor. So what do you folks think about it for a first entry into the 02 world?

George

I always try to find a car with as little "previous owner disease" as possible. Basically as close to zero "modifications and improvements" and hack job fixes. Of course by now nearly all these cars have issues and "improvements" but try to find one with the least number, it's much better than undoing the damage the previous owner did over the years. The 5-speed and tii motor aren't really pluses compared to just having an unmolested car. You can put a 5-speed in it later if you want and do it "right" or you can troubleshoot hours of crap with how the guy did the driveshaft and transmission crossmember (I've seen some batshit insane ones), hacked up wiring, poor fit and rubbing in the tunnel, exhaust failling off, etc. Ugh. And then you can imagine what they did with the tii motor, maybe it was OK or how did they route the fuel line? Does it have a tii tank too? What pump did they use? Is the wiring a hacked up mess? Is it leaking fuel all over?

My advice is to find the least-molested and "upgraded" car (that also isn't rusted) that you can afford and enjoy cleaning it up and maintaining it. You can "improve" it later once you know how things fit together on it and what's what.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

History of the BMW 2002 and the 02 Series

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,

    The BMW 2002 Production Run

BMW 02 series are like the original Volkswagen Beetles in one way (besides both being German classic cars)—throughout their long production, they all essentially look alike—at least to the uninitiated:  small, boxy, rear-wheel drive, two-door sedan.  Aficionados know better.   Not only were there three other body styles—none, unfortunately, exported to the US—but there were some significant visual and mechanical changes over their eleven-year production run.   I’ve extracted t
