Looking for mlytle

Good afternoon guys and gals,

Hoping to contact mlytle to get in touch with the owner of his old M10 motor with the Kerman head and hot bottom end. I built that motor in 2001/2002 and would LOVE to give receipts and machine work/Kerman head work documentation to its new owner. IIRC the block is stamped with a 278xxxx VIN as engine 2592564 was too far gone to accept a 0.050 overbore.

Was in '73 malaga VIN 2592564 that I see ended up with a fella named Noah.

FWIW that motor was built with NEW Mahle 0.050 over grand piano 9.5:1 pistons, NEW Schrick 292, NEW Schrick HD valve springs and a bunch of other goodies. Machine work on the bottom end done by John Spindler when he was in Owings Mills. Superb, superb work - balancing, slight decking of the block, etc. Kerman built the head, which included porting and port matching on the TI intake manifolds.

Saw it in his project blog and it brought back all the great memories I had with that car, most of which was the MANY lifelong friends made through ownning an 02 and largely through this board.

Funny how 2002 stuff goes around...

Marshall's '73 had a great engine that was transplanted into his '75. I always wondered how the valvetrain was so quiet - even with a 292 cam. I think KC Donahue knew about this one - mentioning the tii block.

That engine was pulled and sold to another FAQ'r in Ohio. Wish I bought it - but no room.

Here is the last we saw of it during a snowy exchange in Winchester, VA.

fargo...LOL!

Marty found me. very cool connecting with the prior owners of a car!

Have you heard back from JB on the progress of his car?

Work ended in April. He has since bought a house that needs work (he's an architect), and the car is on the back burner once again. Motor IS in though, we got that done before Vintage.

2002 newbie, and dead serious about it.

Hello Marty,

i was doing a vin search online, and i ran across this old thread.

I just picked up the 73 Malaga from Noah Yesterday. It's been sitting for a few years. I'm planning on getting her running again. I'd love to get more info on the history of the car and the motor.

thanks

Carlos

hi carlos,

there is not much of that car left that Marty or I had anything to do with.  when i sold it to Noah all it was was a shell on a roller suspension to keep it off the ground.  sorry, but all the good bits are long gone.  the trick engine is in indiana.  all the performance suspension, transmission, LSD and brake bits are on other cars. I basically stripped it.  Noah put the running gear from the 2002 he converted to an N2 in the Malaga car to get it running again.

a few pics of it when i sold it to Noah..

i think the cool steel wheel are still on it though!

about 70 pics of the car taken over the course of the year or two i owned it here

glad it will live again though!  my name for the car was "trusty rusty".

Hi Marshall,

It's in about the same condition as it is in those photos(including the cardboard box in the trunk). It does have a motor in it now, but it all needs to be wired up and connected. it still has the steel wheels(seems like they are hard to find). I have a set of 15x7 BBS RS001s that i want to put on it. The motor that is in it now was in Noah's white car. I remember Noah mentioning it has a cam and a lighter flywheel. Do you know anything else about it? My plans are to install a full set of Condor suspension bushings on it, and make it road worthy again... Maybe even take it out to a Chin event or two.

I was looking up the VIN on Carfax, and It told me VIN not available. Is there a trick to looking up these shorter vins on Carfax?

sorry, i don't have any info on any parts Noah put back into it.

not sure carfax even tracks the old vins.

car has been in VA/MD for many years.  Marty owned it for a long time, he sold it to a guy in MD who owned it for a year or two without doing anything to it. i bought from the MD guy, drove it for a summer, then took it apart.  i only really bought it for the engine, 5spd, seats, diff and steering wheel.  the suspension is in jgerock's tii.  volvo/320 brake system is in california.  i sold it to Noah years ago.

BMW Neue Klasse - a birth of a Sports Sedan

Unveiling of the Neue Klasse Unveiled in 1961, BMW 1500 sedan was a revolutionary concept at the outset of the '60s. No tail fins or chrome fountains. Instead, what you got was understated and elegant, in a modern sense, exciting to drive as nearly any sports car, and yet still comfortable for four.   The elegant little sedan was an instant sensation. In the 1500, BMW not only found the long-term solution to its dire business straits but, more importantly, created an entirely new

In 1966, BMW was practically unknown in the US unless you were a touring motorcycle enthusiast or had seen an Isetta given away on a quiz show.  BMW’s sales in the US that year were just 1253 cars.  Then BMW 1600-2 came to America’s shores, tripling US sales to 4564 the following year, boosted by favorable articles in the Buff Books. Car and Driver called it “the best $2500 sedan anywhere.”  Road & Track’s road test was equally enthusiastic.  Then, BMW took a cue from American manufacturers,
