I have this on my car. It did take some modification, but it looks cool. I'm about to go 5-speed, but may keep it for irony's sake.

I search "vintage shift knob" on ebay periodically, which is how I found this one. Same seller; nice guy. He did tell me he had two.

from a nice piece of hardwood. I've made 'em out of cherry and mahogany, but the choice of wood is endless.

I brought back some koa wood from Hawaii some years ago, and using a factory wood 2002/2000/2000CS shift knob as a pattern, turned a couple on a lathe, gave 'em 5-6 coats of spray urethane varnish and stuck 'em on my two cars. Koa is reddish like mahogany, but is grained like teak. Goes well with wood-rim steering wheels.

cheers

I started making shift knobs for my 69 and 71 2002s, and I have a website with wood and Corian custom knobs for most BMWs, including 2002. The mahogany ones will match Nardi steering wheels.

I make them with internal threads, as well as a set screw, and I have dogleg 5-speed pattern inserts available, or a logo.
