I would love to have one of my project cars acid dipped but can't find anyone anywhere near California that will E-coat the body afterwards.

Here's a good Pelican parts thread on the subject of Zinc Phosphate and E-coating.

My chassis was zinc phosphate coated.

As far as the dash. It was cut out before I purchased the car. I did not have to deal with the dash. I have the shell of an early dash , which I like better, but I also have a later dash in perfect condition. I may go with the later dash because it is a later car and it may be allot easier.

  • 5 weeks later...

UPDATE! FInally got the chassis over to the body shop to get Etch primed and begin the work of restoring the body to better than/as new condition...I attach some progress pics...

Also, upon inspection I noticed they did not get into the shock towers as much as I wanted so that will be handled...more to follow...

Decisions Decisions...I DO have a plan for the car..my basic approach is to create something new from something old and mainatin the originality as much as possible...How do I do that?

In speaking with my engine builder my challenge to him was to use an M10 engine and build something that would give me MUCH BETTER than stock performance with the appearance of originality.

In other words I do not want to refabricate and reengineer the car.

We are going with a stroker 2.2L M10 using the s14 crank and making the appropriate adjustments necessary so we dont have to cut away at the car.

We are mating this to a better than stock 4 speed cr gearbox, and LSD diff.

I am also having a 3.90 diff made up in case the engine reving gets out of hand with the 4.10. I dont want to give up performance for quietness, but I dont watn it to be a screamer when driving normally either...WOW how is that going to work?

Next step as well is the color. I still have to decide on that. My initla implression after I got the info from TJones was to stick with Chamonix, but I am really leaning towards Schwartz. None of the other colors really scream at me as working too well with the Braun interior except maybe Agave.

Check Out this car .....

Looks good in Schwarz

Ken,

I dont follow the tailight and side marker comment....the 1800 did not have side markers?? Here is a pic of the tailights. I thinkthye are in great condition. Some polishing, and detail work, and I think they will look great!

Al,

Not sure if the dash fits a 2002...The NK is 3 inches wider than an '02 so not sure.
