bumper tips...

OK, so i'm tired of driving around with accordians on my car, and was looking for some tips on how to go to the shorty bumpers on a '74 o2. Particularly, what bumpers work, any conversion that needs to be done, parts needed, etc etc.

Also, do the early bumpers work, or is it the euro-version that i need (or am i totally lost)?

Already posted in the WTB, but if there's a good source for these parts that'd help too

Here's my 74 tii that was converted from diving board bumpers to early 02 bumpers. I'm still working on getting the right pieces for my rear bumper for the true Euro bumper look.

Square tail light 02's look so much better with Euro bumpers. You'l agree that after you put Euro bumpers on, you'll wonder what took you so long to ditch the diving board bumpers.

Just did it....The rears are pretty straightforward...

remove old bumper

clean area

drill holes for brackets

bolt bumper up

adjust

Fronts....an entirely different animal.

There are a few ways to go. I went with the new bumper mounted in the same location which is about 1/2 inch or so higher than early/euro cars.

If you went with the early/euro location you would have alot of cleanup work to do with the old holes left.

There is also a difference in bumpers...all will work...there are just differences. Rear...early 02's had short sided bumpers (shortys) and later 02s had long sides (longhorns). Up front the early corners didnt have the rubber strips on the front...just chrome.

The other links esp. Eurotrash's helped me out ALOT. The fronts I had to make the mounts. Its a GREAT upgrade...I love the square tails with shorty rear bumpers....they compliment the shape of the 02 very nicely...
