  1. Hi - What M42 components would I need to buy to conduct the swap? I have the whole custom mounts and stuff thing all figured out, but I'd like to know what other M42-related things I'll need. Thanks!
  2. 40/40 downdraft? Aren't those rather hard to find? I haven't come across one yet anywhere online.
  3. Anything like this on the east coast?

    Pictures

https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B5Erses9jaLJQ1Vlc1R5SWRYaEU&usp=sharing There are some more pictures of the car. As far as modifications go, it has a 32/36 Weber downdraft, ANSA exhaust, larger swaybars, Bilsteins, and performance springs. 14" Panasport wheels. It has a 5-speed from an E21. The interior has Recaros. For the engine, I'm going to have it rebuilt this winter due to worn piston rings. I'm planning a 292 cam, 9.5:1 pistons, and IE exhaust. For carbs, I still haven't decided between a 38/38 weber downdraft or two 40DCOE sidedrafts. But, I have a lot of time to decide. As far as suspension goes, my plans for the car include even larger swaybars, different springs (IE Spring & Swaybar Kit), and larger brakes. I'm going to keep the Bilsteins, as I'd just be replacing them with the same set.

    Bought An 02!

    Sure! https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B5Erses9jaLJQ1Vlc1R5SWRYaEU&usp=sharing
  6. Sounds good. I can't wait to get my engine all sorted and rebuilt with 40s.
  7. Nice - I have a 3.64 open diff and E21 5 speed. I think they'll be put on when the motor is rebuilt - whoever does it will be a professional and have experience doing them so they're properly set up. I'm planning 9:5:1 pistons and a 292 cam. Should be a quick little car by next spring.
  8. Meaning start it and rev it until it reaches temperature?
  9. Anyone on here daily drive a car with sidedrafts? What's it like?

  11. I'm 15 and I just bought my 02. Would rather have it than any new car.

    Bought An 02!

Thanks! Hopefully we'll be able to make it to some of the events with the NorEast 02ers this year! It's pretty clean, but it also needs a lot. That being said, I think I found the perfect car for me. The FAQ has been very helpful so far - but I like the idea of having a go-to manual for basic repairs and maintenance.
  13. How does the 38/38 compare to DCOEs? I've been told they make about the same power. Also, regular or "double pumper" - which is better?

    Bought An 02!

After about a year of wanting to get a 2002, I found one that I wanted to purchase. I was able to find it through the NorEast 02ers and I bought it after a PPI at SCR. I got it for a price well within my budget and I love it so far. I've started a few topics here on the FAQ and have some 02 literature on my way (02 Restoration Guide, Haynes Repair Manual) so I can learn as much as I can about the car. It's a first in a lot of ways; it's my very first car and also my first 02, my first BMW, etc. I love the car so far; and have plans for it in the future, which I'll have up here when I compile a list of them.

  19. Turbo M42? You really don't need that much power in a street 02. Look at Dev02s comment. My 02 has about 110 and I love that little car. I was looking for something quick too, and you really truly only need 150-175 horsepower to make a car that screams. A 3.91 LSD from an E21 will also help acceleration. I completely understand your desire for a fast car - but the 02 really doesn't need horsepower to be fast. If you want to talk mods for an M10, PM me; I've got some great resources. Otherwise, if you want big power, go M20 with Schrick 292 cam, cold air intake, and open exhaust. Should give you about 200 at the crank.
  20. My car is Chamonix too! Haha. There's a good guide on here which you can use to check the car. http://www.bmw2002faq.com/_/technical-articles/history-and-reference/2002-buying-tips-how-to-find-a-good-one-r65#
  21. Absolutely gorgeous! What kind of flares and what size wheels?
