  1. It's funny how many shades of mintgreen I've seen. It's a color that can be wrong in a lot of good ways. I googled 90's era alpinagreen with image search and then added 2002 and this car came up on reddit. The color looks similar to the other search hits, but lighting and surroundings make a huge difference in color perception. Especially over the innernets.
  2. Old stuff? I'm still enjoying points/condensers over here. I think I might be a luddite. Tom
  3. Not with the Ignitor Twoo. That one only needs .6 ohms. His coil marked "no resistor needed" probably has around 3 ohms built in (like the bosch caribe coils). The ballast resistor should be bypassed and a 'hotter' coil could be used. The original ignitor requires 3 ohms though. http://www.pertronix.com.au/assets/pdf/Pertronix_Ignitor_2_Installation_Instructions.pdf
  4. I tend to agree with Henn. I'd be thrilled to have a caribe car with that interior.
  5. It's tempting to wire the new harness as described above, with +/- connected to the battery and tapping into the driver's side bulb plug; but leave the passenger's side connected to the original harness to compare brightness side to side. Does that seem like a valid test/comparison? Hopefully the old wiring makes them just as bright as the new, so I don't need to clutter things up; but if they're noticeably brighter with the new harness, it might be worth tucking it in someplace inconspicuous. Tom
  6. If the puddle box still has the foamy cover on the outside, it'd be good to peel it off so it can dry out. The covers trap clutch juice and rot the box. Mine was so bad I had to weld in a patch piece. That made it an especially satisfying job.
  7. It’s interesting to see the variation in how the bulbs fit the grilles. Mine seem to protrude more than Visionaut’s. I didn’t use the wiring harness. I did make some little plastic backed 400grit sandpaper tabs to insert in the old wire terminals to remove oxidation. It was a good job for screw grabbing drivers and magnets, with all the little fasteners. I’ll have to look into adjusting them to make sure they’re not offensive to other drivers. They will be much brighter than my old Cibies. One of the lenses actually came apart when I removed the screws! I like vintage stuff and the old ones blended in nicely, but sometimes new is necessary. Tom
  8. Welcome. I like the grey interior and it looks to be in good condition. Low back seats make me a little nervous, but I like those too. That carpet might even be salvageable, if you're careful. I don't see any cracks in the dash. The early chrome trimmed dashes are cool, the way they tie into the door panels. Looks like a worthy project! Tom
  9. I like this line, "The original 2002 had rather old-fashioned, slightly protruding round rear lights for a less elegant streamline than Ray’s later rectangular taillight model."

  11. ... from https://www.blunttech.com/ I recently purchased an axle for my old Subaru and was reminded of how nice they are to deal with. I sent an email at night, on a weekend, expecting to hear back on Monday, but got a response a few minutes later.
  12. This part is confusing. Did you set them all while #1 was at TDC? Have you seen the valve adjustment article?
  13. I'd start by clipping those soldered-on terminals off of the wires at the coil and crimping new ones on.
  14. It might be that crooked sticker that makes it look tweaked. You can lay a straight edge on top of the pulleys to make sure they're aligned. I used a little piece of wood to check mine.
  15. This is a recent thread on the topic. It's a nice kit.

  17. Looks clean to me. I don't see signs of pre-ignition. I'm no pro-plug-reader tho.
  18. So you took 1-2 degrees off the top and left the rest of the curve the same? You were feeling the vibration at full advance? 18 at idle is quite a bit. How many degrees between 2-3K rpm? That's where mine tends to ping.
  19. At which rpm were you feeling the vibration? How much total advance do you have now? How much does that leave at idle? Do you see any evidence of pre ignition on your spark plugs?
  20. He doesn't play with us anymore. He left in 2015, (aside from one post in 2021). Tom
  21. Same here, but I also added a magnification lens to my helmet. Initially, it was so I would not need the reading glasses, but now I wear both at the same time! It works really well because all of the work is up close.
  22. Mine uses the bumper shock mount bolt, as well as the underside of the bumper itself. It does require a longer bolt and , as mentioned above, the muffler hanger is in the way so they cut it off and added one to the hitch. Here are the three rear hangers I made. The middle one is on the car now.
