  1. what usually happens is they get dropped on one end or the other and the weight of the 1st/2nd slider pulls it into gear. Try standing it on the output shaft end on a piece of wood (usually a 4X4 block) MAKE SURE YOU DON'T HIT THE END OF THE SHIFT SHAFT. Thump the gearbox on the block lightly and see if it comes out of gear, you might have to try a number times each time a bit harder. If that does not work do the same thing thumping it on the input shaft end (the question is if it is stuck in 1st or 2nd gear) We had this happen at the dealership with a factory replacement gearbox in '82 the first time.
  2. Thanks but I've lived in Issaquah since '68 and had my other '02 for 36 years as of this coming Dec. The turbo is kind of new I bought it in England back in 01 thinking I would have it on the road for 2002 didn't quite work out that easy. Finally finished it last July
  3. Depending on the material and design of the manifold you are looking at expansion measured in 0.001's of an inch. Compared to the strain on all of the parts trying to withstand the heat and vibration of the turbo, down pipe etc hanging off the head studs the worry about the brace not "expanding" is non existent.
  4. If you are torqing the studs to the max when the engine is cold then the expansion of the manifold flange is going to over stress the bolt right at the time they are as hot as they can be when you are under boost. There is a reason the factory Turbos used 10mm Inconel studs instead of the 8mm steel studs on a NA M10 engine. I would use some kind of brace from the block to the turbo mounting flange and try a NEW set of studs and self locking Coper nuts, keep the torque well under the 25 ft/lb torque limit for a 8mm grade 10 stud. I would try something like 15 ft/lb to start.

  6. I put a set of the Sumitomo on my Turbo. I just finished the restoration and only have 45 miles on them so far.
  7. The way the center cap mounts also makes them look like a Centra wheel, I can't remember the model name.
  8. Most sandwitch type oil cooler adaptors cool the oil BEFORE it is run through the filter, You want to make sure you use FILTERED oil to supply oil to your turbo. You can do this with a Tii filter housing and a sandwitch type cooler adaptor or just pull the stock housing off your engine and drill and tap in the same place on the housing the Tii injection pump oil line is mounted. You can then just make it a 1/8 NPT and use an AN (Aeroquip etc) line to the turbo. If all you are doing is drag racing you don't really need an oil cooler, at most you will be at full power less than 13 seconds and then you have time to let things cool down. You would be much better off making sure you have enough Water Radiator to keep it cool.
  9. They are the same rocker arm. If this is anything more than a daily driver I don't recomend the aftermarket aluminum rocker arms, They break! If you spend any amount of time above 5500 rpm spend the money and get new ones from the dealer. I have had horrible luck with the aftermarket stuff over the last 10 years.

The average tire diameter for a 185/70/13 is 23.5" With the Overdrive 5 speed and a 3.64 final drive (not correcting for tire growth with speed) the speed in each gear is: 1st) 5.1 mph/1000 rpm 2nd) 9.5 mph/1000 rpm 3rd) 14.6 mph/1000 rpm 4th) 19.2 mph/1000 rpm 5th) 22.3 mph/ 1000 rpm You can do the math and figure out what speed you are going at any given engine speed in each gear.

  12. It was not cheap. I had them at a repair shop for over 15 months and they did nothing but take them apart and tell me they were "looking for parts" I finally picked up my box of parts and took them to Bill on a monday morning, the following monday he called and said they were done. I think it was about $700 each to repair them.

  14. I can also recomend Holman's auto body on Roosevelt way, north end of the U District in Seattle. Paul does a very good job and his prices are very fair.
  15. I had both of mine rebuilt in Seattle. The bearings are no longer available so he modified the housing and used available parts. I just got my car running for the first time in over 25 years so I don't know how well it works but made 160 hp at the rear wheels @ 7psi engine is totally stock everything is new. I'll get the name in the morning.
  16. I am finishing the restoration of my Turbo 2002 and I need a good set of inside door handles, window winder levers and vent window knobs. I have some but they are not in good shape. Thanks for the help.
  17. Good luck and have a great time, I am just getting close to finishing the full nut/bolt and paint restoration of mine. I got the car from England early in 2002 and it has taken me way too long to get it done.
