  1. CHarlie, I have spent more hours than I care to admit on my clock. The links other have sent are the best places to read up on the clock. There are two different activities in the clock. 1. Machanical - wind the disk with the spring attached and see if the clock starts working - if not you probably want to blow out dust etc and add oil (I used clock oil for mine but I am OCD) 2. Electrical - used to recharge the spring for the mechaincal workings. Check the solder fuse as the FAQ will tell you. Some sites recommend low temp solder (I used it but again OCD). It could also be an open resistor or an open coil in the circuit (I think the resisitor is something like 47-48 Ohms). I have not found an inductance value for the coil to validate it. Hope this hellps
  2. Did you see this in the FAQ? http://www.bmw2002faq.com/content/view/40/32/
  3. 6. Odo not working see FAQ here http://www.bmw2002faq.com/content/view/72/32/ I got my gears from Odometer gears but someone posted using an RC gear. Search the posts Instrument cluster bulbs Slyvania 194 see the writeup on cluster overhaul http://www.my2002tii.com/how_to_dash_gauges.htm
  4. Jon - good to meet you at the cars & coffee. Thanks for posting the picture of the "other" 02. I feel better about my car already. --John
  5. Shipmate, Great write up. One quick question - Were you a nuke? It would explain a lot. --John - ET2 (SS) Reactor Operator
  6. If no one has one you might want to look at Jaymic http://www.jaymic.com/shop/subcategory.asp?subcatcode=78&catcode=2

  8. Mike, thanks for the clarification. I suspected Tiis set-up was different but wanted to check. Joel, thanks for the links. I will need to address these screens in the future
  9. Just took apart the fuel level sender to check that everything was working. Other FAQ posts indicate a screen on the bottom of the fuel level sender. Was this true of all models? My 72 tii has a fuel pick-up which I assume has a screen and a seperate fuel level sender that does not have one. An artticle in the BMW enthusiasts guide does not mention a screen in the level sender rebuild. Where are the screens? Thanks
  10. Walloth is currently having a sale till 3/31 on panels and floors http://www.wallothnesch.com/e/framewelcome.htm
  11. Per BMW, the old gas cap keys are NLA For anyone else in this situation, the C9 key uses an ILCO 1125H-H5 blank. Not sure if this will work for other series but worth a check. ILCO still makes ignition/door and trunk keys and can be found in their classic auto catalog. (Ignition options are BMW1 or HF18 / trunk are WT3 or 63Y) The challenge will be finding and old-school locksmith that carries the blanks. For Atlanta drivers, I highly recommend Security Lock & Safe in Marietta. This is an old-school locksmith who spent the time testing blanks until we found the H5 fit. The Curtis H3 key I have and mentioned earlier appears to not exist and can't be cross-referenced.
  12. Mike, My gas cap key is a C9. Do you need the key blank info or the key profile? The original key has HK on it. The copy of the key is a Curtis Key Company, Cleveland Ohio #H3. If you need the profile I can look around Atlanta and see if I can find a blank and get one cut for you. Shoot me an e-mail off list. --John
  13. Try this thread http://www.bmw2002faq.com/component/option,com_forum/Itemid,50/page,viewtopic/t,309102/

  17. I am in the Smyrna/Vinings area but wasn't me either. Mine is a roundie and does not fall into the "nice" category Yes, a get together would be good. I counted about 16 people in the board in the Atl area
  18. Never tried this so just a wild idea - may not work. Do you have both parts? The key cutting machines I have seen clamp from the side so might be able to hold both pieces together long enough to get a cut on the blank. Would try someplace like Ace or a lock place where they actually care about customers
  19. As you start collecting per CD's direction, some things to get you started 1. You can still get owner's manuals from Jaymic in the UK, Haynes you can get many places 2. The Tii registry has a downloadable parts manual with original parts numbers 3. You can use RealOEM and Maximillian Importing parts diagrams as these usually have the latest part numbers 4. There was a downloadable service manual on the net but someone else will need to refresh my memory where it is located 5. Get very familiar with how to search on the FAQ 6. Collect the diagrams CD poasts as they usually have added nuggets of wisdom on them
  20. I bought the CD from Bav Auto last Fall. It works fine on my Vista and XP systems
  21. The BMW Mobile Tradition Profiles book references/states: - several European hillclimb championships by Furtmayr - in 1972, 7 national rally championships by 1602 or 2002s - 1973 saw numerous rally successes for 02s They don't list details other than Furtmayr
  22. Lost a radio knob when I bought the car. Looking for 1 (prefer 2 for back-up) knob for Blaupunkt CR-2001 AM/FM Cassette player. See pictures below. Thanks

    testing ........
  24. Good site but I would still check with the state's DMV. The site says Georgia is 1942 but it is currently limited to 1970 and earlier cars. In Georgia they have a form for using the historic plate so the DMV forms page is a good second place to look.
