  1. I'm a little confused, as we are talking about a pair of extremely rare 'collector' carbs, how is that another testimony to fuel injection?
  2. It's a press in stud (hence the lip.). Tip? Speak softly and carry a big hammer.
  3. Mike, you have an awesome job! Do you have a website or ordering information about your chocolate? I have a disease that requires good chocolate to heal. (The infection started at the Turin Chocolate Festival a few years back.).
  4. shoot, I couldn't fit my beanpole body underneath of the 02. Give me a call if you need some play by play.
  5. Sorry for the first picture not clearly showing the area. Here's another picture from last summer on a car put together by Mitch (formerly of Pacific motorsports in Portland.) Consider it as emphasis to what Steve K said. Best of luck getting the whole thing to work together, please post some pictures when finished with the TEP for reference for the rest of us searching this subject at some point.
  6. had the same thing happen to me. get under the car and look at where the linkage lever mates w/ the rod coming out of the transmission. In my case the spring loaded sleeve had slid back to allow th dowel holding the linkage to the rod too wiggle up and almost out (cross your fingers it didn't fall out completely. Temporary fix would be to tap the dowel back into place and duck tape the sleeve into place. Long term fix.... install the linkage kit here http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=ireland&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=263012111&Count2=180152535 .look under 2002 short shift kit, and have better than new. Then again this happened a different time...... but you can find if that is the culprit pretty easily. EDIT: didn't read the smoking clutch part, but that's pretty obvious as esty pointed out. you DO NOT have the remove transmission to see the linkage. But you could have solved that by looking under the car before coming on here. Best of luck, if you need some help and your around fullerton-ish give me a call 714 818 2706
  7. I'm surprised and glad that we have as many options as we do for strut bars for a 40 year old car. snapped this picture yesterday, It's running an IE setup fairly similar to Steve's setup above (coilovers w/ shortened struts/2.5 inch springs, strut brace, camber plates).
  8. Lot's of quality time right there. This is a very cool idea, Hope it spreads more.
  9. The panasports (let alone 13's) can be tricky when it comes to BBK's. For a good basic tutorial on 2002 specific wheel fitment this is a good read by the guys at Ireland. http://www.bmw2002.com/tech/bmw-wheels.html
  10. Why don't you email them? o r d e r d e s k @ i e m o t o r s p o r t . c o m from their contact page.
  11. This is an awesome build! I like the tire smoke shot.
  12. A few years ago Massive Lee was emailed that diagram from IE and then proceeded to photoshop/remove all traces of the Ireland Engineering logo from it and post it on here claiming it as his own. But that's all water under the bridge now. Needless to say if you do a search you might be able to find it, And if not, I'm sure IE would send the diagram to you if you asked.
  13. I have a new style IE one. Took a couple of adjustments and some old fashioned common sense to get it right, but it works fine now. I drive 55 miles a day during the week.
  14. shoot... Battista Farina (founder of Pininfarina) started out by working in his brothers auto repair shop and hot rodded customer cars. He visited Henry Ford and turned him down on a job offer.
  15. FYI I know where you can find high performance rods at half the price (for that price they had better be delivered by a marching band), and in stock. I know of several race cars running them (I'll be using them eventually on my M20 project.). http://store.nexternal.com/shared/StoreFront/default.asp?CS=ireland&StoreType=BtoC&Count1=485790431&Count2=402930855
  16. What is it your looking for? Cast or forged?
  17. wouldn't put it past the crazy guys at Groma to do this. I know they have had a pretty far out honda F20 powered one in and out of the shop.
  18. with a billet 292 cam (not a regrind), you won't need oversize eccentrics because you'll still have a full base circle.
  19. +1 for vintage racing a 2002 . . . scroll down to "Group 4" on page link below to see how 2002's fare in a typical race (check out VARA if you're in / around the Southern California area). -KB http://www.vararacing.com/info/?id=5300 ^^^^ This. If you saw 02's racing at willow, most likely they were racing through VARA. As Ken can attest they/he are/is VERY competitive. If you would like to look over some 02 race cars and are in the orange county/LA area email me.
  20. could also be that you are working on a car quite a bit older than those you've worked on before. I know because I'm in the same boat, as everying I've previously worked on has been post '87ish. The 2002 is tougher than all of them, but try working on, let alone getting performance parts off the shelf for a NK!
  21. I hate to sound like a broken record here but have you tried calling or emailing IE and see what they would suggest, after all it is a product they make. Is the person doing the alignment is the same "trusted mechanic" from before? Do they have experience working on 2002's or other european classic cars? perhaps it would be a good idea to have him talk with IE directly, I'm sure they'd be up to talking with the alignment guy to give him the best foot forward. If you want somebody who deals with prepping a number of 2002 race cars (with the same toe and camber kits.) why don't you try Ronin Autoworks in Fullerton. (714) 526-8100
  22. email me if you want to take it for a little spin, plus some good install shops. a n d r e w a d a m s 7 7 7 @ g m a i l . c o m
  23. I used the one from IE using an OEM selector rod, short shifter (z3), and related bushings and hardware. My original linkage was a constant problem (leaving me on the side of the highway a few times gently taping the selector rod retaining pin back into place). rather just ordering new replacement parts and have the same issues arise over time, a full refurbish seemed a logical way to go.
  24. there was a gentleman who had one up there. He owned the smart dealership for a while if I remember correctly. He was on here about two months ago.
  25. Hi-performance ironing board? Where do you go skiing?
