  1. First make sure the motor is healthy....have it checked...compression, etc. Adding mods to a tired engine will usually stress it and force it to go south even quicker. If its healthy...things like a cam, bigger carb or dual carbs, Fuel injection, exhaust, pistons, etc....ALOT can be done to this engine...just depends on how much power you want. Remember the more power you add, the less streetable the car will become. If you want 200 hp, It will idle rough, not have alot of low end grunt, and be genarally not fun...until you get it where you can rev it and it will sing to 9k rpm....so if you want ALOT of power, look into another car or an S14 (M3) engine which will have 200hp stock..but the engine alone with 150k miles on it may cost you 5k...and another 5k to install..and another 3k if it needs a rebuild......if you want 150-160 hp, then it can be done with this engine and still be very driveable...
  2. by "race" I assume you dont mean street race so te first thing you should do is check the rules of the racing organization and class you intend to race in. Tis will tell you what you can or cant do....the easiest thing is build the 2002 motor...motor swaps with other engines are not cheap and are not bolt in...
  3. So I am starting to once again have some grounding problems...I fixed them all about 9 months ago...now I have a flickering temp gauge and it flicks in time with hazards and turn signal...as well as sometimes dancing about for no reason, then other times...solid as a rock. So before I really start tto tear into anything, I noticed my negative battery cable is pretty corroded ad that maybe I should address that pretty soon....its the strap type cable and at one area, its green all the way across...Is this something to replace soon? (I will anyway) and is there any better type than another?
  4. YES!!! I sent you an email....I will hit you tomorrow....
  5. looking for one in good condition.....
  6. I have a set of e21 Recaros and I need the 2002 adapters. They have a generic adapter on their now that makes them sit a bit high, looking for the recaro adapters that put them back at the normal height.
  7. Mine seems to be 7 inches wider...ugh......where to put a 27 inch long amp????? OTHER than the trunk?
  8. Looking to install an amp under the rear seats...its loooooong.....may be the only place it will fit, dont wanna yank my rear seats to look if its possible if I dont have to...they were a pain in the a#% to get in. If anyone has a pic of the back of the 02 with rear seats removed that would be perfect...thanks.
  9. Duplicolor is the clear they sent me....hmm....I will look out for that. Not a major thing as I wont be using it for the trunk.
  10. Figured it out...loosen the bolts holding the window...move it into the right position by hand and tighten the bolts. One down one to go!
  11. So I am adjusting the window regulator so the windows go all the way up, thats done, but the window seems to have some slack front to bac and as it gets to the to, tilts back...by hand you can easily push it into the correct position, but it just has that little play in it. ANy way to tighten that up? I am looking and dont seem to see. the rails are in solidly. Ideas?
  12. Yup Dave is awesome....look at his site...TONS of 02 parts and upgrades...I have a set of his Recaro seats...good stuff!!!! Great guy as well. If its not on his site call him and ask...I got a set of Bilstein Sports from his as well...great prices and knows his 02's. We should do alot of business with guys like him and Ireland because they are making it easy to keep our 02s alive!
  13. Man your car keeps getting better and better! I'd like to know where to grab some of that paint as well. Thanks! I try and do SOMETHING once a week to the car. Even if its something small. I have some vacation time coming up so I am preparing to do some bigger jobs! Paint was from paintscratch.com, you put in your year and model car and in some cases even your VIN number and it will get you paint in the original color. You can get it by touch up pen, spray can, or even buckets. In this case the Fjord blue was a dead on match....good stuff. It comes in the 2 stage base coat and clear coat, or they can make it into a one stage only but you have to use rubbing compound to get a shine from the one stage. It made me think I just may be able to do some panels on the car until I can get the whole thing painted...but maybe not...lol...
  14. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-BMW-535-535I-535IS-735-735I-735IL-M5-STARTER-88-93_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2ec0Q2em14QQhashZitem43963c94c4QQitemZ290283361476QQptZMotorsQ5fCarQ5fTruckQ5fPartsQ5fAccessories#ht_1740wt_941 I called the guy and its somewhat local. The guy says its an OEM part (i.e not Bosch) and its got the EXACT same specs and is a direct replacement for the SR441x Bosch starter. Its like $80 bucks. A Bosch SR441x is like $180. This is a NEW starter and the reman Bosch starters are about $90 bucks but I read alot of bad things about the ebay Reman starters being junk, basically just repainted old starters, with old parts inside. So I am a bit leary of those, but a new OEM part should work fine right? Anyone do this?
  15. 2nd place I have heard bad thins about that company.
  16. At stock height its not harsh....He is dropping it about 2-3 inches from stock with Ireland Stage II springs and probably bilstein Sport shocks. It will get stiffer. If he doest go too low he should be ok. Nice rims!
  17. Kinda agree...aside from tuning and maybe exhaust....because of the value of the car in stock form I'd leave it alone....buy a carb'd 02 for modding....just my opinion.
  18. They will fit, with the right offset, and will look good on a lowered car...but ride quality will probably be pretty harsh....
  19. That annoys me to no end...I am not yet in that position with this car, but with my black Carrera it was a nightmare....First of all black is soooo hard to maintain...and easy to scratch. It would get polished twice a month. Once I was doing the brakes and I couldnt for the life of me get the pad out of the caliper. It was free but would coume out...My neighbor who is about 75 and NOT mechanically inclined walked over, grabbed a screwdriver and proceeded to prod and yank on the brembos!!!! I was like whoah! He was only trying to help, but I thought that was the ultimate...
  20. So I have been looking at the trunk and its remants of rust and dirt and decided to tackle the job. I ordered rust treatment, primer and color coded paint from paintscratch.com. So I removed everything and went at it....I plan on masking things and painting the gas tank as well now that its the only thing I didnt touch in the trunk. I also think I may try the vinyl paint or dye for the trunk boards. I bleached them and got YEARS of dirt off of them, but they could look really nice with a dye. Next up...the engine bay! oh and the rusty jack and tools in the trunk....lol... Before..... After rust treatment and primer Here comes the Fjord Blue! Finished Shock towers Finished Trunk and with cleaned floorboards
  21. one thing to make sure of is the place you buy from is an AUTHORIZED DEALER...if not your warranty will be void. alot of the super low price on ine retailers are either getting counterfeit items or stolen or grey market. these people will file down serial numbers so no one will know their source. it will also void the factory warranty. They usually say things like your warranty is with us, or we will replace the product not the manufacturer, but it is VERY easy to bail on a warranty for car stereo equipment...claim it was blown from a bad install, or too much power or not enough power...all kinds of things. So they rarely honor the warranty. If you send it to the manufacturer they will not honor it either as the dealer was not an authorized dealer. If you have any question, look it up online at the manufacturer. Ask if the place you are buying is an authorized dealer. One good hint, if you are getting a product for 50% of list, its probably not legit in some way. Crutchfield is legit...I usually but any electronic equipment locally. I can usually get someone to come close to internet pricing if not match it and also get someone to back up the product, get local swaps, if a part is defective and have live and real people to deal with in the future. Also stores sometimes have some specials on old stock that can be amazing...I got a $800 Nakamichi deck for $80 by walking into a store and talking to the owner about what I wanted...turned out he had about 4 Nakamichi decks for sale that were used...I scored....
