  1. From PO: Essentially a "rust free" California car but needed much more. Ground up restoration nearing completion. Intention was to maintain a "period" stock look on the outside (classic color, stainless bumpers w/ over-riders, optional alloys with 185/70 13 Pirelli Cintauratos, all trim) with modern interior ('74-76 color in leather, A/C, sound deadening, Bluetooth) and upgraded M-10 ( 38/38 Weber, Pertronix, JE forged pistons, mild cam) Not an investment, not a garage queen, not at all original, but a road-tripping summer driver. Full restoration was completed in early 2019 and then sent to Carl Nelson at La Jolla Independent for "clean up" in Mar 2019. As noted above, the original Riviera blue was replaced by Nevada - an earlier modell 71 color that was not available in on MY '73 cars in NA. 5 optional alloy's were ultimately wrapped in 175/70-13 Pirelli CN36's (Kumho in same size on the spare.) Interior was fully restored in Saddle, with a crack-free later 1-piece dash - though all controls remain original MY '73, i.e. R-side turn indicator, dash knob wiper speed, etc. Additionally, sound deadening, e21 Recaro sport seats, e21 sport steering wheel, ICE Auto AC, Sisal CocoMats, and a RetroSound radio were fit. Engine rebuild was as above, save the cam was returned to stock. Suspension fully rebuilt during restoration using Koni Sport dampening, new OEM springs, and 22/19mm ST anti-sway bars. Car was offered as the 2023 BMW CCA Classic Car Raffle car, with a full review and refresh by Carl Nelson before the raffle.

  3. The BMW 1800, VIN 960356, was manufactured on January 23rd 1964 and delivered on January 29tg 1964 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was "Granada". The original owner purchased this car on July 23rd 1966 in San Francisco. the second owner purchased the car on December 28th 1973 with 120,700 miles. The second owner and his family drove the car until 1992, when a “problem” occurred, and he said he wasn’t going to spend anymore money on the car. Bringing the total mileage to 192,739. Which is backed up by extensive notes and receipts from the second owner, listing everything from top and bottom end rebuilds to every time the points and condenser were replaced, to every time fuel was put in the car, and the fuel mileage and what gas station it was. I also have some records for the first handful of services that were done in San Fransisco under original ownership. And then I bought it from the spot it was parked, in 1992, on July 1st 2023.

  4. Car sat in a shipping container and off road in California from 2009 to 2021. Was told it was a former coupe king potential rebuild car. Matching numbers. Bought from forum member Danco and had it shipped to Texas. Got it running well, tracked down missing pieces and did full brake, shifter, and suspension update. Hopefully going to paint within 6 months to a year.

  6. My former tii was a Frankenstein. It had been hit many times, lots of body parts replaced, along with rust and copious amounts of bondo. Instead of throwing money at it to fix it, I decided a fresh start was necessary. I traded my 85 Euro spec E28 525e for a 74 tii shell. The polaris paint was totally shot on the E28 and it was a eta car so no big loss. Before everything was transferred over from my Frankenstin tii into the shell, the Euro bumper conversion was done, US spec side marker lights were deleted and then the tii was repainted into its original color, Sahara. I had known about this tii shell for years in Palos Verdes, CA, the previous owner decided to do a M20 conversion on the tii but gave up on the M20 project before any mods were done under the hood. I bought the original motor for the tii from the owner seven years earlier but also came across 2762096 motor about the same time. I decided to have Jack Fahuna rebuild the earlier tii motor (rebuilt to Euro tii specs, 9:5.1 comp ratio). Jerry Fairchild rebuilt the injection pump at the same time. The original tii # matching block for my car was found in the back of Jack Fahuna's shop 20 plus years after it was pulled out of the engine bay. Jack has rebuilt this motor to Euro tii specs. My tii was reunited with the original factory engine (matching VINs between chassis and motor) in Fall of 2022 Here are the restomod upgrades to this tii. -5 speed -LSD -E21 Recaro's -Eibach springs -Bilstein sports -ST swaybars -Polyurethane bushings. -Momo Alpina, or E21 sport steering wheel, I swap them frequently -15X7 ET25 Amil 10 spoke wheels with summer performance Yoko tires or MSW 15X7 ET26 basketweaves all season Hankook 195/50-15 tires. -Crack free one piece Euro spec dash (no fasten seat belt billboard) that I scored at an automotive flea market in Ludwigshafen Germany and mailed back. The hole for the tii clock was carefully cut out. -Euro turn signals (scored at same automotive flea market) -Silicon Garage 3 core radiator -Cibie H4 lights -E30 map light mirror My first 02 was a 75 Euro spec Sahara 1802 that I had while in the Air Force stationed in Germany in the early 80's. I wanted my tii to look like my first 02 (except for the 13" wheels). Having owned a Euro spec 02, I love the Euro bumper look and I like square tail light 02's. Now to find a 220 kph cross hair speedo to complete the Euro look. Last pic is of my former 1802 that was taken in July 81, Winnweiler Germany. G-Man

  7. This 1967 BMW 1600 was purchased in San Diego, CA by my brother Danny Quigley on August 28, 1984 - nearly 38 years ago. From paperwork I am finding on the vehicle it appears and is possible Danny Quigley is possibly the 3rd owner and it has been recently transferred to Nevada. Unique only to the very early cars, this 1600 has the ultra-rare 10-spoke grill with the surround center kidney grill as well. In March 1966 the 1600 was introduced on BMW's 50th anniversary, and it begins production in April. VIN's begin at 1500001 runs through 1533857 at 1967 model years end. Approximately 2000 sold in the U.S., mostly '67's. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FROM BMW GROUP The BMW 1600-2 VIN 1529682 was manufactured on June 22nd, 1967 and delivered on July 4th, 1967 to the BMW importer Hoffman Motors Corp. in New York City. The original colour was Granada, paint code 023.We hope this information is helpful for you.Yours sincerely,BMW GroupAndreas HarzBMW Group ClassicHistorisches Dokumentationszentrum

  8. Legal delivery to BMW dealer Bovensiepen (Kaufbeuren, Germany) on February 16, 1967. This is an important car, particularly because it represents a rare example of a U.S.-imported car shipped first to Alpina’s shop in Kaufbeuren, Germany, where it was substantially modified by the renowned tuner. It is an early 1600-2, manufactured in February 1967 — 1600-2 production began in March 1966, with few examples entering the U.S. in 1966. And it is, at least for now, the earliest documented Alpina-modified ‘02 entering the U.S. But, wait, there’s more! This car is tricked out with all the Alpina bells and whistles, cost be damned. The Alpina mods more than doubled the car’s original price. And because the car pre-dates the 1968 model year, when substantive emissions regulations first took effect, it could be imported with a fabulous “Emissions? What’s emissions?” engine. And then the whole enchilada was road-tested by Car and Driver, practically as the car was off-loaded from the ship. Just imagine a new owner so enthusiastic about his new car that he allows Car and Driver to break it in! Yes: important and very special! The car has been discussed in at least a few threads, such as the following: and: But what really brought this car to our attention is the road test of the car that appeared in the December 1968 issue of Car and Driver, as attached.
