Mudflap hardware questions/source?

dp

Recommended Posts

Here's what I have, anyone know where I can find the remaining bits I need? Anyone KNOW what the remaining bits are that I need, and maybe even a copy of the mounting instructions? THIS would be an esoteric faq!

Oh, if YOU have what I need, maybe you can provide the remaining bits and the key to the jigsaw puzzle (instructions)?

Thanks in advance for any replies, on or off-list!

YOU need 7 more of the toothed gripping cups

like the one I circled. also use nice flat washers

to spread the squeeze under all the nuts and bolts.

The car has a 1/2" metal flange point down from the

joining of inner wheel well and trunk floor sections.

Your griper cups just pinch on those flanges.

Spray with light undercoating or heavy black paint

the hardware after installing.

your only source is of course other members,

fee ad over in the Want/Sell section of this site.

Bits ARE Way N.L.A.

congrats - you got the 'good' ones

with the seperate plactic roundel revited,

instead of the 'others' which have a stensiled

roundel - not as rugged.

c.d. is as usual right.

But, I remember these things and the system for mounting was troublesome to say the least.

If I were you I'd try to fab up something that could bolt on with a flange welded to the back of the wheel arch someplace. These mudflaps are made to wear like iron but the brackets were designed like an afterthought.

The last thing you want is to get out and notice one of them dangling or worse, gone.

Is fuel efficiency really what we need most desperately? I say what we really need is a car that can be shot when it breaks down.

The missing "alligator -tooth" clamps can be sourced from any 1970s BMW factory mudguards. You can easily fab one of the "L" brackets from flat stock.

Consider replacing the hardware with stainless steel.

I have a pair of "Italian" mudflaps that mount in a very unique way and eiminates this method of attachment that puts the mounting bolts/clamps right in the middle of the "schmutzy spray"
