How does one remove early E21 injectors?

Clay,

I'm embarking on the same intake conversion. Have you seen these? http://bitzracing.com/products/injector_bungs/injectorbungsdetails.html

I'm curious to see if they will work with the 320i intake.

Those look great!

I was worried about drilling the bungs out on my own. It would be nice if I could do it without drilling!

I am going with the Magneti Marelli Pico 44lb/hr injectors for the turbo setup.

Specs - Static Flow Rate: 44.0 lb/hr, 491 cc/min

Dynamic Flow @ 2.5ms PW @ 100Hz: Not specified

Coil Resistance: 14.6 Ohms (nominal) (This high-impedance injector will work with all factory ECM/PCM injector drivers)

Spray Pattern: Pencil

Connector: Minitimer (Bosch EV1)

Factory fitted with Viton upper and lower o-rings.

Grease supplied to lubricate o-rings prior to installation.

I'm not sure what to do about the fuel rail yet.

a 318 fuel rail that is efi will work the injectors are at the same angle wether there in the hear or efi in the intake. i have one i decided to use the intake and rail off the 318. now all you will have to do is weld a post off the intake or another mean of holding the rail on.

I'm going to go ahead and order a set to see if they fit.

I'd bet they won't. At least my manifold didn't have such a CIS injector bung to be pulled out. There's just a small sleeve and taking it out does not give enough room -> needs drilling. Those bungs could still be useful if you drill the manifold to accept them. I made my own ones with lathe.

I managed to do the drilling myself on a bench drill with adjustable table but it was a bit scary. It may be better to leave for a machine shop if you don't have the tools and feel unsure.

I just removed my injectors and bungs last night. The bungs were a plastic material and looked similar to the ones pulled out of the Porsche manifold.

They look like the top section of these (middle):

I'm not sure of the dimensions of the injectors and the adapter sleeves, but it looks promising.

CIS injector puller/remover tool.... Schley Products

It can usually be found for around $10 and some parts supply places that rent tools may have them as it is a common VW tool as well as many others.
