Have made a little more progress and have a few photos to post.

The bottom of the car has Gator Guard bedliner covering everything below...after having applied a couple of coats of POR 15.

Radiator in top shape and painted...ready to go.

Gas tank completely cleaned inside and out. Inside, after throrough cleaning and coating, a bladder liner was installed. Currently exterior of tank only finished with POR 15 but will get a couple of coats of paint before installtion.

  • 2 weeks later...

Today I got some bad news about the differential that came with the car...it was unusable and has to be replaced.

The good news: it will be replaced with a rebuilt 3:90:1 LSD which will be a great addition...especially with the rebuilt 5 speed that is being installed as part of the resto.

Many thanks to our friend Steve Peterson at Blunt Tech for his advice and support!

Some updated pics of the engine bay and trunk are attached.

A few more misc. shots of installed parts, plus some pics of the suspension parts being moved from Rusty...my original project car.

These parts had less than 500 miles on them when I bought the Inka Tii and decided to rebuild it instead.

Hard to tell Jim, but the arrow on the heater control valve should face the cabin, not the engine compartment.

Your work is really good Jim. It is going to be a real nice car. I have a few comments:

-Why not replace the brake fluid reservoir with a new one? Your engine bay is so clean and a new clear reservoir would look great. Just keep the lid from you existing reservoir as the new BMW stock does not include the proper lid for the brake warning light wiring.

Here is a pic of mine

-You should replace the clamps on the heater valve hose with proper BMW clamps which will not "snake bite" the hose

-Are you considering rear battery relocation? It makes life with a tii much easier as you have more space under the hood to work (you can swap an alternator without removing the front sway).

Keep up the good work and the pics

I just got off the phone with the fellow that installed the heater control valve, and he thinks that's the only way that it can go on. Unfortunately, we removed that part from our parts car as well, so I have no reference. Zac is going to be visiting me soon with his Tii, so I can show my mechanic that part on Zac's car.

If you have a picture I can use...that would be great too.

Thanks for your help...we'll get it straightened out.

Here is a pic from Bill William's car (with apologies to Bill for lifting it). You can see the valve with the arrow facing into the heater box.

We have the clamps on order...those pictured were used temporarily. Good idea on the brake reservoir. What we're doing now is simply taking the best part from the Tii and my parts car and using it. We will come back and replace items that need to be freshened up. If you have any other ideas, please post them.

Thanks a lot,

Clamps have been replaced, and arrow pointing toward the cabin.

Note to Kris...I did consider moving the battery, but decided not to. Today I have no plans to put a radio in the car. However, if I decide to put one in, I would want the space in the trunk in case I wanted or needed the space between the shock towers for a bass management system...or a place for some sort of electronic rack for the components if I want to keep the interior of the cabin pristine and vintage.

Guys...thanks for your help. All comments are welcome!

Here are a few sources I found useful for figuring out tii stuff

Keith Kreeger's restoration site http://www.my2002tii.com/

Especially the section on the engine rebuild and hose placement

http://www.my2002tii.com/spring_2005/engine.htm

http://www.my2002tii.com/spring_2005/tiihoses.htm

Rob Torres at 2002 Haus - a wealth of information on all 02's

He makes a nifty reproduction of the tii fuel filter bracket in the proper gold plated color

http://www.2002haus.com/NLAparts.htm

Bill William's 2000tii restoration blog on this site. His attention to "correctness" under the hood is exceptional.

This is by no means an exhaustive list, just a few that helped me
